Saturn is losing its rings

Interesting. The particles that make up the rings rain down onto Saturn, eventually there will be none left.

It will take millions of years.

I do recall reading that the rings are not that old, on the astronomical timescale.

I just noticed this in the acknowledgements at the end of the article:

The authors wish to recognize the significant cultural role and reverence that the summit of Mauna Kea has within the indigenous Hawaiian community; they are fortunate to have the opportunity to conduct observations from this mountain.

… that is, at the Keck Observatory. I have never seen such a statement in a scientific article. Very interesting.
