Saudi Arabia - a view from behind the veil

It’s a pretty powerful article. She does a good job of telling what hiding under yards of cloth do to a woman and the men around her. Its not good for either.
 
there are inconsistencies in their practice. i read about a saudi woman citizen, but outside saudi she dresses in western clothes. rich saudis get to enjoy lots of things ordinary saudis don’t.
 
Well to them it’s not inconsistent, you need to understand Muslim theology as it relates to the “abode of Islam” vs “the abode of war.” What got me interested in the subject was a trip to Egypt years ago. There were a number of Egyptian women on the flight, all dressed in western clothing that it wouldn’t take much of a reach to call immodest. Towards the later part of the flight the pliot announced we would be entering Egyptian airspace soon which prompted the women to go and change their clothing. In Islam there is one morality for “the abode of Islam” and another for the “abode of war.” When you leave the “abode of Islam” you can pretty much do whatever you please.

I do not think the segregation and disenfranchisement of women is a practice that can be explained away via Muslim theology. If it were South Africa would there be a religious reason that would make apartheid morally acceptable to you?

Also consider that terrorists like Bin Laden want to spread the rule of Sharia Islamic law to the entire world. It is sharia law that enforces the veiling, segregation, and disenfranchisement of women in Saudi Arabia.

I am ashamed that the US keeps a blind eye to the treatment of women by the Saudis, because of oil.

I don’t think that CCM08 was saying that it is acceptable to him but instead was stating some facts and observations. Shoot I know Muslim women who will not even travel to Saudi because of the strict rules there. They come to the USA and dress like everyone else on the beaches here.

It is Islamic theology that demands the segregation and disenfranchisement of women. I it is commanded in their scripture (Qur’an and Hadith). Shari’ah cannot be discounted as it is every bit as important as the Qur’an and Hadith. It is the scriptures put into law. I’ve spoken about this with many Muslims. Their take on it is that Shari’ah is God’s law as stated in the scriptures.

Islam is a system of apartheid enforced by its law. It keeps women apart from men. And it goes further in establishing apartheid based on religion. Only Muslims are full citizens with full rights under Shari’ah law.

I’m not sure that the USA keeps a blind eye on the treatment of women because of oil. The USA keeps a blind eye on this topic in most Muslim countries… even those that have no oil. What are we supposed to do? Go in with force to change it? Are you aware of the anger that Saudis have against the USA and other western countries because of the pressure we put on them to change these things? It is one of the things that has helped people like bin Laden find followers. Shoot, the USA asked the Saudi government to remove the hate literature they provide to every mosque and Muslim school in the USA. We also asked them to remove the anti-Semitic and anti-Christian hate and call for violence from the text books they use in their schools. They refuse to do it because they say that this hate is directly of God.
Many Saudi women will tell you that they support this system of gender apartheid. They were raised in it. They have also been politicized and support of it is a political statement against the non-Muslim world.

Tell me are you in support of opening up drilling for oil in the USA, in Alaska and off our Florida shoreline so that we can become totally independent of Middle Eastern oil? We get about 20% of our oil from that part of the world. Of course if we stop getting oil from them, then they will just sell it to China. So we will not hurt them in any way nor will this help the Saudi women one bit.
