Yes I was over sensentional.
My questions to Catholics is will you remain Catholic when a future Pope makes concessions to the Muslims?
Yes you were. 😉

Yes, of course I will remain Catholic.

You are making a big assumption with “when” rather than “if” however.

You seem to be certain that the Pope is goign to make these concessions. I find that completely unlikely and near impossible.

My question to you: why wouldn’t I?

Concessions is such a broad term and could mean any number of things. The same can be said for recognition. Unless you care to elaborate on what you mean, I really can’t respond to you further than, “So what?”

The title doesn’t fit the article. We don’t know that he will…Besides, I recognize Muhammad–he is said to have been a real person who was a prophet (albeit a “false prophet” if one is truly Catholic). If the Pope accepted Muhammad as a true prophet of God, then I would probably be tempted to leave Catholicism for Orthodoxy, but I highly doubt he will compromise Catholic theology for “concessions…”

Prayers and petitions,

It is not up to me to decide what the Church of Christ is, or isn’t. It is for God to decide, and God to protect. It is for that reason that I can’t leave the Catholic Church, since it constitutes the fullness of truth. The Orthodox Church, is something less.

Does not God ask that we obey His word?
If your understanding of what the Church of Christ is in conflict what God has previously said, where do you go?

It cannot happen. And just because the pope says something…does not make it a doctrine of the church. Your statements do not coincide with anything an informed Catholic would ever agree with.

of course! but you need to use your words more pointedly. what would it mean for a future pope to make" concessions to the muslims?"

it woudln’t necessarily be the same thing for a pope to make “concessions” as it would be for him to acknowlege mohammid as a true prophet. inn other words you could have a pope kiss the kornan and that might be viewed as a concession meant to foster dialog, which has already happened, without any noticeable desertion of the faith by Catholics.

if a pope acknowledged muhammid as a true prophet then I would question the man’s sanity, but that wouldn’t cause me to fall away from the faith. The pope is merely a man, after all, and some men do go insane, been known to happen.

My allegiance is to the Pope of Rome. Nothing more, nothing less. I will follow the shepherd because I know that he will lead me to the green pastures. If the only way there is through land mines, fires, sandstorms, tornadoes, earthquakes, what have you, I will follow because I place my trust in the Pope, for he speaks for God.

Is not your position contrary to J_C s?

Thats like saying will we be more jewish because Juses was jewish

The title of this thread was deceptive.

It might also do well to point out this quote from the article:

“It would be possible to launch official negotiations to construct a church in Saudi Arabia only after the Pope and all the Christian churches recognise the prophet Mohammed.”

If your understanding of what the Church of Christ is in conflict what God has previously said, where do you go?
Yes, and He gave His word to the Apostles, who gave it to their successors, the Bishops. When my understanding is in conflict, which it has been often, I assume that my understanding is deficient, and I go to prayer, and to study. It is arrogance for one to assume that one personally knows more that the 2000 year old Church who has Christ as her Head.

False assumption. The statement is not possible. It is the functional equivalent of my asking you, “If Jesus isn’t God, would you be Christian?”
Is not your position contrary to J_C s?
No, God, through Jesus, expects us to follow his Church. He decided we needed a Church, and we needed a Shepherd. Not my choice, but Jesus’.

Is not your position contrary to J_C s?
on surface it might seem so, but if you reflect mor deeply upon the nature of the Church, I would say no, it is not contrary.

personally i would have worded it a little differently than dbacks, but i think we are on the same page.

hisalone be careful that you don’t mistakenly think that every word that utters from teh mouth of the pope is infallible. infallibility is a narrow thing. Popes can make mistakes.

we don’t worship the pope. We worship Jesus. Jesus is the head of the Church. The pope is a sinner, just like the first pope, St. Peter, was a sinner who denied Jesus. Popes can make mistakes, but my strong belief is that they rarely have, throughout history. And never has a Pope altered the kernal of the faith, which when you think about it is pretty much a miracle.

No, he ain’t. If the Pope recognizes Mohammed, it is submission to Islam.

This will never, ever happen. Of course the Pope isn’t going to give up on the nature of his faith, and Muslims say that God had no son, and that Jesus did not die on the Cross. Add that to the fact that Islam was a seventh-century invention, and we’re about as far away from the sarcastic jab becoming reality as we can be. Muslims say they have the same God as the Christians and the Jews, but they contradict the stories of every major figure in both religions. I feel sorry for people who live in the feudal monarchy of Saudi Arabia and have little in the way of human rights.
