Saudis Who Never See Their Wives

Believe it or not, it actually happens here in Saudi Arabia. There are husbands, brothers and sons who have never seen the faces of their own wives, sisters and mothers let alone cousins and aunts. There are wives who never showed their faces to their husbands since they have tied the knot a long or short time ago.

again…what does this have to do with Islam?

Shouldnt we be on this forum discussing Islamic beliefs and principles not what some muslims choose to do? If we make it a point to discuss the latter, we wont get anywhere.

I dont know what you mean by previous Islamic culture. Islam is the same from the time it was revealed to 2005.

The not showing the face to the husband and family is completly ridiculous and does not stem from anything Islamic.

The practice referred to in the linked article is a tribal tradition, not an Islamic doctrine.

It has happened in the past that threads in this subforum have gotten hung up on (and gotten ugly in the process of) discussions that were focused on particular/peculiar practices that are unique to a nation that happens to have a majority Muslim population.

As a parallel, while we may consider it unique/unusual that Ethiopian Christians, Orthodox and Catholic, maintain some Judaic customs, particularly with regards to dietary restrictions, we don’t extrapolate those to be Orthodox or Catholic praxis or doctrine, rather seeing them as a cultural phenomenon; this is no different.
