Wow, didn’t know it was so humorous? The Catholic American Universities and Colleges are hopeless…I agree. Don’t sign it won’t make a difference…nothing will.

For pity’s sake, why are you all just rolling over and giving up!!! :eek:

Show a little fighting spirit. Yes, most of our Catholic universities are Catholic in name only. And yes, we are losing Catholic grade schools even as huge numbers of Catholic Hispanic immigrants are flooding into our country.

Thank you liberals.

But why can’t we turn things around? We should be encouraging our parishes to start new schools or make the old ones more faithful to the Catholic church. We need to ask those who are elderly to donate at least some of their inheritances to Catholic schools. We need to pray, and pray some more for faithful nuns and teachers. 🙂

I, for one, will not go down without at least trying.

I’m not making fun of it… I just don’t see the point. The school has a tradition of asking the President to speak… EVERY President, whether he agrees with us on all issues or not. They invited Bush and he has started an unjust war, spied on us, promoted greed to the point our economy is sunk, ignored environmental issues to the point of ridcule from the rest of the world and actually saw a rise increase in the number of babies murdered under his term for our young adult age group all while being “Pro-Life”… and you want to Protest Obama because he doesn’t believe life begins when we do? At least there is a possibility of dialogue there! He has already spoken with the Pope and the head of the USCCB about issues and I’m sure will continue to do so…

I’ll sign it, but I think we should focus on elementary and secondary schools. They are vaporizing before our eyes.

The secularization of our colleges and universities is certainly scandalous, but the elementary and secondary schools help to lay the bedrock that our childrens faith and morality is built on, (adding to what is taught at home of course).

This, in my opinion, should be the first priority.

It’s not so much that he is speaking but that they will offer him an honorary degree. I think that steps over the line.

The most important way would be to pray.

But also…how about encouraging the elderly to donate a portion of their estate to Catholic education? Or how about volunteering at the schools? Even help with traffic or help at the lunch time would be good things to do. How about checking to see if your local Catholic schools have books that are faithful to the church? How about filing a gentle and kind complaint if they do not? How about more prayer?

This is just off the top of my head…please, anybody out there have better ideas?

You have any idea what he’s done since he took office.

There has never been any president who was so extreme in their pro-abortion stand than this guy.

There has never been any president who was so anxious to progress the anti-life policies than this guy.

First, Bush didn’t support abortion. Obama UNEQUIVOCALLY DOES.

War is not gravely immoral.
Obama is continuing spying on us - also not a moral issue.
How did Bush promote greed? That’s possibly the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. But, I’ll wait for you to back up this allegation.
How did we ignore environmental issues? By not signing Kyoto? No other country can reach it, because it’s too costly.

Did he have a hand in raising babies being killed? No, as I recall, he stood up for the rights of the unborn from not being murdered.

Has Obama spoken with the Pope? Has he spoken with the USCCB? I honestly don’t recall seeing ANY of this in the news.

Stop making allegations, and start backing things up.

Are our children learning Gregorian Chants, the Hail Mary, the Rosary, the Angelus, the Mass or are they simply learning neo-Christian songs, clapping hands, and singing Here Comes Charlie? The future of the Church must be more Catholicism.

We LOST our school at the of last year… here was our petition and the old link to the school, which now takes you to the parish website… If you read on the petition site some of the replies - you may be able to figure out what was going on… Not sure why there are still parish members still attending… (?) I am clueless. It was dirty work.:mad:

I have remained as an active opponent of American injustice for many years and so should every Catholic - this is what we teach our children, in our schools. Social Justice, I do believe it is called.

What about this…:
When President George W. Bush spoke at the commencement in 2001, many students wore armbands signaling their opposition to his support of the death penalty. Why was he not boycotted?? What is the difference?

Because the death penalty is NOT THE SAME AS ABORTION.

THE DEATH PENALTY IS PERMITTED BY THE CATHOLIC CHURCH.

ABORTION IS NEVER PERMITTED.

I wonder if Notre Dame would also invite Castro.

How about teaching the children the Gospel of Christ?

All else is nonsense if they don’t know Jesus as their personal companion who speaks to them personally in the Bible and who shows them their true identity.

Being a Catholic child does not mean you learn to pray the rosary or cross your self or there hangs a crucifix in your class room. All these are good and okay, but truly secondary. What children (and adults need) is thorough preaching and teaching from people whose lives have been transformed by a true conversion to Christ.

I think the problem in both parishes and schools is this: “why are people turning away from the church? let’s do all kinds of activities and put up pretty paintings in our churches, play some gregorian chant, talk about treating each other nicely etc”. But none of this is what Jesus comissioned each and every one of us to do. He said: “Go and preach the Gospel and I will be with You, confirming my presense through mighty works, these signs will follow those who believe… and don’t worry about what to say, the Holy Spirit will tell you at the moment of persecution…”

We have come so far away from the simple Gospel first preached by fishermen to ordinary people, the mighty faith, aflame in the hearts, not through the words of professors or theologians or priests who cant or wont preach, but by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Salvation history, the first and second covenant, God walking with His people, our own sinfullness and recognised need for salvation, being taught and preached to, accepting Christ as King in my own life… thats where it starts… one by one when people are transformed by Christ himself…

Sorry if this sounds somehow simplistic, but I have seen places, Christian schools and parishes that were aflame and thriving and then I have seen some that were dry and full of apathy and the difference followed the pattern I just described.
