Hi I was wondering do all Catholics believe that you are only saved by commuion and confession and the rosary and all these other things and not by faith alone ?
Or am I totally wrong if so what do most catholic believe if u know what I mean

Sorry for ranting again but I just want to understand many thanks

Like the apostle Paul, I am working out my salvation in fear and trembling and hoping in the promises of Christ.

I personally don’t know of any Catholic that believes that they are saved by the rosary and ‘all those other things’.

Here is the Catholic teaching explained. It is a shame that so many non-Catholics have a misinterpretation of what Catholics believe.

I hope you read the site I sent about how we believe we are saved.

The Rosary is a prayer in which we meditate on the Life of Christ. Certainly you also believe that prayer is important to be a good Christian?

The priest stands in for Christ when we need to confess and received God’s grace through the Sacrament.
It is an awesome thing to hear the priest say the words of absolution, and be aware that it is our Lord’s words.

If you want to know what Catholics really believe keep asking questions. We’ll be happy to share the truth of what we believe.

Catholics believe that one is saved by Faithful obedience to all Jesus Christ said, did and taught. It is not merely relying on the mercy of him personally, it is about being faithful to every iota of the Catholic Faith; for it was the faith established by Christ.

The Second Vatican Council taught that if anyone knows the truth of the Catholic Church, but chooses to reject it, he cannot be saved, for there is no salvation outside the church.

However, the works that Catholcis do through the grace of the Holy Spirit are not SIMPLY the result of a saving faith: Rather, they are the ratification of that faith. “Make every attempt to make your calling and election sure.”

The works done in Christ, through Christ, for Christ and With Christ have a real and actual spiritual value that contributes toward our salvation. On the other hand, Sin contributes to our damnation.

James 2:24 is the only place in the whole Bible that uses the phrase “Faith alone.”

“You see that a man is saved by what he does, and not by faith alone.”

James 2:24.

Also in 1 Peter 3, the Apostle Peter says “Baptism now saves you.”

As Paul says in Colossians: “All who have been baptized have put on Christ.”

To believe that salvation is simply reliance on the mercy of Christ with no effort made on our part (through the working of God’s grace in our heart), was condemned by the council of Trent as heretical.

To my knowledge, participation in the Sacraments, such as Communion and Confession, are themselves an act of faith. For Catholics, faith is not a static belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of G-d, who is co-equal to G-d the Father and the Holy Spirit, as essential as this belief is. Faith must be actively practiced on a daily basis through the Sacraments of the Church (which bring one into direct personal contact with G-d) and through one’s kind and generous behaviors toward one’s fellow man. This is what the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus stood for according to the Catholic Church. The New Testament reveals that faith without works is really not faith at all.

Catholics believe that we are saved by the Grace of God freely given to us and made present to the world through the death and resurrection of Jesus. That Grace continues to be made present in the world (recall the promise “once for all”) through the sacraments Jesus established. Yesterday, I received the same body and blood of Christ that Peter and the apostles did. Do I think that’s pretty important? Yup!

God makes the offer of this Grace to us constantly. But He doesn’t force it on us. We need to accept it. Not just once or a couple times, but as a way of life. That yes takes so many forms that the internet isn’t big enough to list them all.

The Rosary is a prayer. We are not saved by any prayer. However, on the other hand some protestants believe that we are, ie. The Sinner’s Prayer.

Chuck,

I would recommend reading a book like Catholicism for Dummies. It will fill in a lot of the gaps you have when it comes to Catholicism. .

If you’d prefer to not spend the money, the Faith section of Catholic Answers, has a lot of good information for free!

You can do a search in the faith section for anything you want.

no Catholics believe this, unless they are totally ignorant of their own faith.

what makes you ask the question?
please provide a reliable Catholic Church source such as the Catechism, the Vatican website etc. that says this is what we are to believe. you won’t find it because it does not exist.

we are saved by the sacrifice of Christ and his death and resurrection. We participate in that saving event in the Mass and sacrament of Eucharist, and most intimately are united with him when we receive His Body and Blood in holy communion, as he commanded on the night before he died.

Not by faith alone means works. Paul and James mention works besides faith
But “works” refer to works in two different ways.
In the old testiment, works were circumcision, purfication rites, dietary rules, etc.
In the new testiment works were the beautitudes, 2 commandments at last supper, etc.
When Paul mentions works were not important in salvation, he was referring to especially
circumcision work of the old which was replaced by baptism in the new. He was explaining that christians are not bound by

those old works any longer since Jesus has given us the new baptism in him. Those old works are outdated and no longer necessary to be followed. In the early church it seems that some christians were thinking that christians were really a full developement of and an outgrowth of jewish religion and therefore circumcism was a preliminary rite prior to baptism.

He was saying that we no longer need the law(jewish) of works for us to be saved. Or another way to put it is, we do not need to be jewish first to be christian or to practise jewish works in addition to christian works.

In the new testament when the word “works” is mentioned, it could refer to either the old works of the old religion, or this word could be referring to the new works of the new religion. The way to determine this is to look at the whole passage where it is used to make sense whether “works” refers to the old works or the new works.
