I have read that the whole premise of his trilogy is to show that at the beginning when the fallen angels disobeyed God,it was God who was wrong. The wrong angels and God won when the fallen angels should have won. The fallen angels wanted to set up a Republic of Heaven and God wanted a Kingdom of heaven leading this kingdom himself. The books show the struggle of a “new Eve” who has to fight the magisterium and the corrupt church with the help of the fallen angels to proclaim this new order. Oh, yes, the young girl is introduced to her sexuality and is sensual in meaning. Does it not sound like the devil trying to attract new membwers to the cause of defying God. At the end the children kill God and set up a Republic of heaven where all are egual. And the author has changed his tune and is now stating he has deep religious themes and wants the young to read and think for themselves.
We do need to pray and fast for our young who will come in contact with this material. Some curious ones will be taken in. So will many adults.

Why are there people protesting the 24/7 adult toy and video store near my neighborhood? They could just avoid shopping there.

I myself never said anything about protesting; many of us are simply defending those who oppose the movie, and with good reason.
I never said that you said that…I said that. People should do whatever they see fit. But you will not stop immorality, or movies like this from airing…UNLESS YOU STOP BUYING THE PRODUCT. That will stop the person’s business. Any business will come to a halt, if people stop patroning it. That’s what I’m saying. I agree to oppose the movie. I think I made that pretty clear by choosing to not take my kids to see it…

We are in agreement then.👍 I am not protesting it myself, I just don’t want to see people defending Pullman’s work as harmless, especially on here (not that you were, it appeared in other threads.)

Oh no no no…au contraire mon frere!😃 We are in total agreement. I think the movie could be very harmful…although, perhaps, it could over children’s heads, under the age of 12, really. (and depending on how savvy a person’s children are with respect to Catholic vocabulary)

But, we are in agreement. I do believe in free enterprise though. It saddens me that there is more filth than not, though, when it comes to movies, sitcoms, shows…etc. But, avoidance is a powerful tool against the enemy.👍

My response is “so is pornography.”
Very nice! I have a college roommate and my girlfriend continually saying that “it’s only fiction” ****.

Thank you for the new line to use!:-p

edit: hrm… i didn’t kno a common, non-vulgar word for feces was not allowed on the boards

garbage, is a word i can use in place of it though

Sure man.

Also remember,

“there are 3 kinds of people in this world. Those who can count, and those who can’t.”

Haha, thanks. I randomly checked your profile - we’re in the same field (or, at least I’m studying in your field of occupation).

How do you like it?

My profession is better yet. Ask me what 2 + 2 is and Ill reply" What do you want it to be?"

The fact of the matter is that the author intended to demonize authority, organized religion, Christianity, and the Catholic Church in general. Regardless of whether or not the work is fiction, his intentions are quite evil.
I agree

That would make sense if I was attacking it for being fiction. I am agreeing with you, in fact. People who defend it “as fiction” are doing this:

this movie is fiction
Narnia is fiction
Narnia is good
this movie is good

to an extent.

You are missing my point. What you just said was what the TC was doing.

Saying “it is only fiction” is a useless defense, because so is a lot of trash that is dangerous.

How does being fiction make something safe or okay? As evidenced by porn, it does not. You have to take it further if you want to craft a defense.
I am not trying to defend it at all.

I think we agree, fiction can be good or bad.

Yeah, I mean…sure, I analyze it to an extent. I have kids, who actually wanted to see it. I said, no…we’re not spending our money on moves that degrade our faith. They really got that message. Didn’t take a lot of convincing, it actually made them angry that there is a movie out there like that!
.😉
You are a well informed and faithful parent. Unfortunately, you are the rare parent. Most parents are ill informed, or uniformed. They will, in complete ignororance of the content, take their children to see thiss cute little movie. Most children have no faith or little faith. The subliminal message that God is bad will get in their little minds. At a later date, when exposed to religion, or to a snese of God in general, they will have a negative reaction. Also if they ever hear of the Mgisterium they wil think, deep inside, Magisterium very very bad. Catholic Church evil.

I have heard that either the author or the producer have stated that they toned the religous negativety of the trilogy to lure parents into buying the books for their children, which are hateful towards God and religion.

This subliminal abuse of these children’s immortal spirit is designed to steer them away from God and salvation. If there was a movie that promoted physical child abuse, or sexual abuse, or parental neglect it would be universally bashed. Their souls are being put at risk here. I believe this is very serious.

On the bright side, I read a review in the New York Post, which trashed this movie, and gave it one and ahalf stars. He said it was quite boring. From his review, I gather children will not be kept interested in it. Thank God for small blessings. Dan

Now I have a question for the the OP, jedi what is “the tridentine holy spirit” ?
Brenda V.
hello Brenda, sorry for the misunderstanding. actually what i meant is for myself. the holy spirit at the N.O mass is strong enough, is there but not strong enough, unlike the TLM, the holy spirit is very powerful until some of the bishop scare to perform TLM.

back to Golden Compass, Pullman just want to make big money he and Dan Brown all the same… Pullman is much more worse because his used children tactic to anti-christ…

Wow, such good points, jailbelle. I didn’t know some of these points about the movie. Scary stuff. Pullman now says his novels have deep religious themes? I’ll say, looks like satanism!

Days after its publication, a largely positive review of The Golden Compass that appeared in Catholic newspapers across the country was retracted this week by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
The bishops, who could not be reached for comment, offered no explanation for the decision. But Catholic groups, including the conservative Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, have urged moviegoers to boycott the film, saying the film and the book on which it is based are anti-Catholic.
“Certainly, there was all kinds of speculation from the day it went up [on the Web site] as to whether or not something like this would happen,” said Jim Lackey, general news editor for the Catholic News Service, a wire service run by the bishops’ conference. He was told Monday to remove the review from the service’s Web site.
