I have caught an anti-television thread here on the forum, and up to a point, it does have its merit. Many programs are garbage and it can be a waste of time.

But come on, everyone! Is there not one out there who actually LOVES television? Well, count me as one! I love my cable, my large-screen and stereo surround-sound, and my commando remote control. Just give me some pizza and a huge stein full of unsweetened iced tea, and I am ready for some serious viewing!

From games shows like Pyramid and Family Feud to the Law and Order re-runs, from VH1 to Football all weekend, I say it loud, I say it clear, and I say it with no apologies: I LOVE MY TV!!!

And yes, I do love my EWTN, too! Fr. Corapi is The Man.

Surely, there must be others out there. Do post, if you can pull yourself away during a commercial.
 
I like to spend most of my time on weekends watch sports, mostly during football season. During the week it is the History Channel and other educational channels and most definetly the cartoon network for my kids. Not all cartoons because some a demented. But I love my TV also. 👍
 
I watch occasionally, but I’m really kinda over TV. I’d rather play guitar, read, work on the car, or something.

I don’t have time to watch TV. My hubby loves to watch. Sometimes we watch Alias together. He and the kids are huge Simpsons fans. —KCT

And Atlantis! And Sci-Fi will be airing Firefly before the Stargates, which is simply awesome!

I personally love T.V. I love watching interesting story lines. And I love being able to to watch Formula One!
 
Law and Order (reruns I love “Brisco”-the late Jerry Orbach) and yes, call me bad, I am addicted to All My Children;) . I don’t follow any other soap but this one is my favorite.I’m also a news nut. FOX is my favorite. 👍 TVland has the old sitcoms which is good when you looking for some escape time just to laugh, because honestly there is not a single sitcom on today thats even worth watching.
 
we have satellite to serve the sports nut, I sometimes flip through the channel guide when I get home from work or on the weekend. 900 channels, nothing good on to watch. I do watch EWTN from time to time, but I don’t care for all the programs, and I only watch when I really have time to pay attention to the presentation. network TV is ghastly, the movie channels show the same 5-6 movies over and over again for at least 6 weeks. I didn’t care to pay to see most movies at the cinema, why would I pay on PPV? old movie channels have something good maybe once or twice a week, but once I have seen Casablanca or How Green was my Valley, I don’t need to see it again 6 times.
 
The History Channel, Discovery, Biography, Military, Classic Movies. There’s a lot of good stuff on television if you just want to veg for a little while or if you want to learn about something.

But I think I may have watched only a couple of hours of television in total since the start of April, (when I converted) so I guess I don’t miss it when I’ve got something so much more fascinating going on. 🙂 I usually just have one of the music channels on - the “muzak” one that doesn’t interfere verbally with reading and prayer.

I’m VERY happy to be moving soon to an area which will have EWTN on the lineup! I’ll definitely have to have a television in my studio and I can see myself watching a **lot **more television after we’ve moved. 👍

We’ve thought about canceling cable and giving the money
to EWTN or CA or something, but then we will miss World
Youth Day, the cooking channel, the history channel. My son
would die without Spongebob being that it is the only cartoon
he’s allowed to watch.
When you think about it, it makes a good thing to fast from
when you’re looking to fast.
Has anyone seen Complete Savages, that sitcom produced
by Mel Gibson? What do you think? We thought it was going
to be okay, but it turns out to be a little too racy for the kids. :cool:

these channels (all part of A & E) raise my blood pressure, at least half the historical presentations have egregious errors of fact, repeat half truths and sloppy research that has long ago been exposed, are revisionist, or in many cases, downright anti-Catholic. for every good program you have to sit through 10 with poor research quoting “experts” who are expert in nothing but selling popular books. I should never have studied history, it absolutely ruins my enjoyment. If I see one more HC or Disc special quoting dissident Catholic theologians or bible scholars who are renegade priests and feminist nuns I will through a brick through the TV.

there is one history based reality-TV series I like, which is on PBS where they take a family back in time to live as like pioneers in Montana or Victorians in London.

I don’t watch much TV but I LOVE the reality shows on PBS where the people try to live as people did in a certain time period. I watched “The 1900 House” (the one you referred to as the Victorians in London), “The Frontier House” (the one where the people were in Montana living like the late 1800’s), and “Colonial House.” I lost count of how many times I have watched these shows. I could literally watch them everyday. These programs say so much about modern man and how spoiled we are today. It’s also a great lesson in how our ancestors lived in earlier times. I think these shows are a good social contrast of how we cope with challenges today (we tend to be cry babies) vs. how people coped in years past. I thought it was particularly interesting in the Frontier House program where the little boy comes to acknowledge (in his own words) how he was happier when he had very few toys than when he lived his modern life with his video games, etc. He said that living out the Frontier House experience taught him that he had imagination.
I like Masterpiece Theatre on PBS too. Unfortunately, we do not have satellite or cable so no EWTN. :nope:
But most of regular TV I can do without.

Honestly, I never thought much about that. Like I said, I haven’t really watched any television since I started reading and studying Catholicism. But, Discovery and A&E have raised my blood pressure with revisionist history, too - especially with regard to the Vietnam war - so there’s no doubt in my mind that they’ve been anti-Catholic as you say. I just didn’t ever notice it because I wouldn’t have known what they were talking about when I saw it.

I noticed the leftist bias as I became more conservative and noticing the anti-Christian bias in the news made me a public defender of the Catholic church even while I still considered myself a pantheist. Every religion under the sun including mine at the time was off-limits for criticism - except Christianity - specifically Catholicism. It’s open season. 😦

I suspect that if I ever get back to television, I’ll spot the bias even more quickly and I’ll have to keep bricks and other heavy objects out of the viewing area. 😉

OH, I saw a couple of those from the one in England and those were amazing. If I ever get back into dollhouses, I will order those series, just to have those details and the insight into daily life in front of me. I missed all the other ones.

I would love to see them do the same kind of series in Renaissance Florence! I would love to see the details of how people really lived back then. My goodness, everything from the terrible to the sublime all in one spot - the plague, science, art and architecture in full bloom, Brunelleschi’s dome going up on the duomo, the golden doors being made for the Baptistry, all the occupational and artisan guilds, Savonarola… there would be so much “meat” there for a series depicting daily life.

I LOVE TV… wouldnt dream of giving it up… the quality of programs are like anything else in life… gotta take the sour with the sweet … 😉
 
I use TV to relax, mostly. So when I come home from work and put my feet up for a few, you’ll most likely find me watching “Survivor” or “The Amazing Race”, “House” and “24”. I don’t watch as much as I used to and since I have to think on my job, I prefer to not have to think too much at home when I need to relax.

I have been contemplating whether to drop cable or not for the last year. I can tell you if my cable company puts LOGO (the homosexual network channel) on my TV, I will drop cable in a second!

I like EWTN, ESPN & FOXNEWSCHANNEL and that’s it. I am a sports nut (especially football & hockey) but I rather watch it on the high school level than college/pros. Over the past year I have told the cable company’s in our area to give me a selection of 5-10 cable channels for a great price and I will no doubt keep cable. This way I get rid of the non-sense on MTV, CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, WGN and all the other liberal garbage.

Well I believe in another 2 months I will drop my cable. I love the internet & AM radio (sports, relevant radio, politics, weather) and with the time I would be watching TV, I will be helping those who need our help!!!
