Is this bad or not? Does the CCC mention anything about it?
I substitute “Oh my goodness!”. Or if looking for a little humor, it might be “Holy cow, Batman!”You shall not take the name of the Lord God in vain.
It is entirely depending on the intention. “Oh my God” is a prayer, an invocation of God’s name.Is this bad or not? Does the CCC mention anything about it?![]()
Let’s take the phrase literally. What does it mean to “Take the Lord’s name in vain”?Please tell me how it is takin The Lord’s name in vain? I’m not being argumentative, I really want to understand. Is it because I’m not honoring Him? Thanks.
Yeah, it’s taking the Lord’s name in vain unless you’re using it as a prayer. Is this bad or not? Does the CCC mention anything about it?![]()
I couldn’t tell you what the catechism says, but I can tell you that growing up in a Protestant home I was always told that it was taking the lord’s name in vain. To be honest, I am still not exactly sure what that means, but regardless, it tends to be offensive to religious people and if you are Catholic or spending a lot of time in religious circles, it’s probably something you want to stay away from.Is this bad or not? I explained what it means in post #5.I couldn’t tell you what the catechism says, but I can tell you that growing up in a Protestant home I was always told that it was taking the lord’s name in vain. To be honest, I am still not exactly sure what that means…
