Saying prayers past midnight - does it count as that prayer being said on the day when we started?

Apologies for the bad phrasing of the question.

To elaborate, if I start saying a Rosary around 11:55PM on a Thursday and I finish around 12:10AM the following day, Friday, would that be counted as a Rosary said “on Thursday” or “on Friday”?

I assume you are the one doing the accounting. I mean, you have a goal that you are personally trying to meet, and God probably is not concerned with accounting. So decide for yourself what “today” means. I count days according to when I sleep for the night. So my answer is Thursday.

Work it out with God. Most of these “I will say a prayer every day” novenas would allow you to make it up on the following day if you missed it on the preceding day. I do a lot of novenas and occasionally when work is busy or I have too many activities (like yesterday where I had work, a really long drive to a shrine, Mass for Our Lady of Guadalupe feast, and some necessary chores like cleaning up after the pets and grocery shopping for us), I will make it up the following day.

When it’s a “finished after midnight” thing I myself would “count” the rosary as being “on” the day that I said the majority of it. So if I said 3 decades on Thursday and 2 decades after midnight Friday, then I would “count” it on Thursday. That’s just my way of doing it, not a Church rule.
 
God is just sitting there leaning forward, smiling at your love, one way or the other. He’ll be happy to count as you ask, just as any good father would.

If you ask Him to count it as “both”…he’ll be unburdened to grant you that desire.
 
This thread question seems a bit legalistic to me as in Pharisees maybe. There I go being judgmental again. :(
 
Ah, I use the idea that the prayer must be said mostly before midnight to push me when I procrastinate on saying it, BUT, it’s probably fine so long as you’re still awake.
 
Are you going to do another one on Friday? Seems the first would count on Thursday.

Are you only planning to do one? Seems reasonable to choose if it was Thursday or Friday. I hope God keeps checking his P-mail after midnight
