Saying rosary during mass

I think the age of the woman would be helpful. Older people, those who were attending Mass when it was in Latin, got use to saying the rosary during Mass because they didn’t understand Latin. I believe they felt they were lost and needed something to do until communion. When the language was changed, these people continued out of habit to pray the rosary during Mass. That’s my understanding.

I believe this is completely correct. I also read that reportedly King Louis XIV used to say his rosary during mass.

peary, I believe that Newbie2 was suggesting that the Sign of Peace might be considered by some as much a distraction as someone saying the Rosary during Mass. A suggestion I must agree with.

Apples and oranges, methinks, as we are invited to share the sign of Peace during mass.

I’m not against the practice, it just seems to me that it’s difficult to give one’s concentration fully to both at the same time, and that neither was meant to split one’s concentration between them. If someone can multitask that way, more power to them.

I think it is perfectly valid. I can’t think of a single valid reason why people would even care if someone was praying a rosary in the Mass unless they were personally opposed to the Rosary itself.

Hey if you can give me one reason why X or should care if Y says a rosary during Mass then I’m all ears. But in the scheme of things I just don’t see why people get so agitated over the practice. It is totally harmless to everyone else at the Mass.

Who is getting agitated? Having a different opinion does not mean that X is getting agitated over what Y is doing. My question is: Why is Y getting agitated over what he/she thinks others may be thinking?
And I want to add that it is not always a matter of caring that Y says (prays) the rosary during Mass. It is a matter of personal understanding and preference.

True. And if the practice doesn’t bother you, as it apparently does many, why even post? It doesn’t concern you and wasn’t directed at you in that case.

What may seem apparent to you may not be apparent in reality. And when one makes a general attack against those who believe that the rosary should not be prayed during Mass, I have a right to respond. What does seem apparent is that this thread has run it’s course and the pros and cons have been nearly exhausted so now some members are attacking those who disagree with them.

Yes you do. I don’t see why, especially since there was no attack made. Just an observation, which like you I am entitled to. You see generally about 10-12 times a year someone will come on here with some story about someone praying a rosary during Mass We go through the same contortions every time and the outcome is pretty much always the same. So, I decided to turn it a bit and find out exactly what people have against it.No one has ever come out with a coherent explanation as to why what someone else does, that has absolutely no impact on them, should even concern them.
