Saying "Thank God!" In times of relief a sin?

Just a question since I read the other thread saying “Oh my God”

When I hear good news, I really do wan’t to thank God.

Is it a sin?
 
I am not sure to be honest, but when something good happens Ina time of trouble and I say it I am really says aloud that I am thanking God. So if you really mean that you are giving him thanks than it should be ok. Anyone else have an idea?

There is a difference in saying “Oh my God” and meaning the same thing as saying “Wow!”, “****”, “Darn” etc… and saying “Oh my God” as a prayer. It’s all about your heart. Rightly there is a big difference and stubbing your toe and screaming “Oh my God” in frustration, and kneeling down because you’ve just seen or experienced something horrible, giving yourself the sign of the cross and uttering, “Oh my God.”

One is reverent, one is not. Using God’s name in reverence is always permissible, using it in an irreverent way is never permissible.
 
How can it possibly be a sin (provided it is sincere, of course).
 
I think if you are saying Thank God because you have had good news about something it is fine. When I or a friend get good news, say about a medical test I say thank God and I mean it. Just my opinion. 😃
 
Of course it could also be seen as an exhortation for the party whose good news it is to thank the Almighty for his beneficence…

The only situation where I think it could be sinful would be if the news were welcome to you but in an unjust way, i.e. where someone told you of something unfortunate happening to someone else and you were ‘thanking God’ for the fact that this misfortune had happened to them, which would not be a nice thing at all.

I doubt anyone who habitually yells OMG at every opportunity is doing so as a spirit of prayer. If the Thank God is a prayer, yes it is good, if it is just away to slang God’s name around, not so much.
 
God is the source of all things good. Thanking Him if it is meant lovingly, and sincerely would not be a sin. Go for it!😃

Seconded: what’s so wrong in thanking God for something good happening??
