Scandal

it always saddens and diappoints me to hear Catholics, when asked about the sexual abuse of children in their church, immediately come up with “well, Protestants do it, too! it’s not just us, they’re equally bad!”

it reminds me of those Muslims who, when asked about the disproportianate and very noticable amount of violence and hatred propegated by a signifigant minority of Muslims, respond with “well, what about you, what about the Crusades? what about the “Christian terrorists” in Serbia and Sierra Lione? what about the priests abusing children, what about that?”

that shifting of the same accusation to another party does nothing to answer the question directed at the Muslim, or the Catholic. if the asker wanted to know about child abuse in Protestant churches, or about Christian violence, they wouldn’t have asked what they did.

it’s difficult for non-Catholics to look at the Catholic church with respect and seriousness when questions are deflected, or projected onto some one else. i realize the church and Catholics must be weary of these kinds of questions, and of defending their church because of the crimes of a few. at the same time, these are serious questions that people will ask, usually not because they hate the Catholic Church, but because they are concerned about the rape and abuse of children being covered up and kept quiet for decades within a very powerful and influential church, who had the resources and the theology to understand that sin is sin, crime is crime, and that wolves in sheeps’ clothing should not be allowed to keep preying on more sheep. and that there is much value in plucking out that member which causes the whole body to sin, and asking forgiveness of the hurt parties, from the get go.
No I was NOT DEFLECTING AT ALL, Munster said he was thinking there was something wrong with the Church and celibacy as a rule, by showing OTHER religions with NO celibacy rules or anticelibacy rules as in Judaism and maybe Islam etc, I was showing they are STILL having problems with sexual abuse. To pin the problem on celibacy is ridiculous since the behavior happens and at the same rate with or without celibacy.

My question would be, where were these 500 people during the time of the scandal? They were well aware of it and it is difficult to believe that they are just now making these claims. How many priests were suppose to be involved, as it would take many of them to be abusing 500 people.

I do believe that most of it is for money. It is very difficult to prove your innocent. The protestants keep their abuses secret and the minister or whoever was involved just moves on. They don’t keep records.

This subject is really getting tired. I have had experience with child molestation in my family and the child was 3 with speech problems, but had no difficulty letting her mother know that something bad was happening. I also don’t buy into teenagers who claim they could not tell anyone or could not remember. This 3 year old has never forgotten what happened to her.

Where were the parents of these children or adolescents? Did they have such a poor relationship with their child that they could not tell that something was wrong.

Also when Catholics bring up the point that it happens even more in other organizations and churches the poster always says why are you pointing the finger at others, as if they don’t have the same exact problems within their churches.

Yours in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary

why is it that the catholic church is always the one in the news when other religions do the same or even worse and don’t get picked on like the catholics we are all humans and make mistakes
Because going after a store-front church with 137 members is not likely to result in much of a monetary settlement. Going after a Catholic diocese, on the other hand, will.

Follow the money.
