What does Mary have to do with Jesus? Please don’t be offended. I don’t mean any disrespect. But…what does the Brown Scapular have to do with Jesus?![]()

The only reason I’m not wearing a scapular is because mine broke and I have to get another one! Thanks for reminding me.I’ve heard of the brown scapular but I’ve never seen anyone who wears it. I hope I didn’t offend anyone with the title of this thread but I would imagine anyone who publicly wore the scapula would be labelled as a fanatic.
Is it possible to hide the scapula under your clothing or do you wear it so that everyone can see it?
Also, why would a person want to wear it? What benefits to you get from it? I could imagine a priest or nun wearing one of these but it seems strange that a layperson would.
I’m with you!Mary always brings us to Christ, she is His mother…The purpose of every Marian sighting was to draw people back to God
Mary never comes to be honored, she comes to warn, to advise ,and to teach…to get us back on the right path
Love it. :tiphat: My parents were also enrolled & wore the brown scapular. Mother had brain surgery twice during her last decade of life & the nurses took her scapular when preping her for surgery. Both times she had anticipated this & asked me to pin it on the blanket that covered her surgical cart. Of course, when they actually moved her to the table, she didn’t really have it with her…but she was out by then & never knew. She set great store by her scapular & she came through both surgeries just fine, though she was 80 when they performed the second one. I still have both of their scapulars & wear one of them all of the time. Most lay people wear scapulars under their clothes. Some as an outer sign of devotion, wear it visibly. According to the original definition of a " fanatic", most people that wear scapulars are not " fanatics" --" fanatics" were individuals who hung out in temples all day. There are many spiritual benefits to wearing scapulars----do a Google search. I wear the Brown Scapular. I consider the Rosary my " spiritual slingshot" to slay the daily " Goliaths" in my spiritual and temporal affairs. And as Fr. Corapi says-----the Brown Scapular is my " dog tag" !
Pacem vobiscum!

I thought I’d read everything that has been written about Fatima, but didn’t know that the Blessed Virgin held the Brown Scaputar when appearing there. Thank You.THE BROWN SCAPULAR OF OUR LADY OF MT. CARMEL:
OUR LADY’S GREAT PROMISE
On July 16, 1251, in Aylesford, England, the Blessed Virgin appeared to St. Simon Stock. She was dressed in the Habit of the Carmelite Order with her infant Son in her arms. Taking the Scapular in her right hand, she gave it to him saying, “RECEIVE, MY BELOVED SON, THIS SCAPULAR. WHOSOEVER DIES WEARING THIS SCAPULAR SHALL NOT SUFFER ETERNAL FIRE … IT SHALL BE A SIGN OF SALVATION, A PROTECTION IN DANGER AND A PLEDGE OF PEACE.”
For over 700 years, the Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel has been one of the most precious gifts and highly-indulgenced Sacramentals of our Church. It is more than that, however; it is in reality a garment, given to us by Our Blessed Mother which makes us her special children. Blessing and clothing with the Scapular of the ‘Blessed Virgin of Mt. Carmel’ enrolls the individual in the Scapular Confraternity and admits him to a share in all the spiritual works performed by the Religious of Mount Carmel.
At Fatima, Portugal on October 13, 1917, Mary appeared as Our Lady of Mt… Carmel, holding the Brown Scapular in her hand. Years later, Lucia, the remaining seer of Fatima, said that “Our Lady wants all to wear the Scapular as their sign of Consecration to Her Immaculate Heart.”

Scapular is not a medal. It is a piece of wool (it can’t be made of anything else) on a cord. You do not have to be enrolled in one to wear it, I believe you do get more graces out of it if you are.Scapular medals are also an option if you have already been enrolled. Mine is part of my 4-way medal (Miraculous Medal, Scapular, St. Joseph, and St. Christopher), and is worn on the same chain as my St. Benedict Jubilee medal.

Actually no longer true according to the revised rite of blessing and enrollment in the scapular approved by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments in 1996.(it can’t be made of anything else)
I get your point but just to be a stickler if I am wearing a New York Yankees hat then I probably am a “fan” The word fan is just a shortened version of fanatic. Just to be linguistically correct. What do you think when someone wears a cap that has the logo of the New York Yankees, or a tee shirt that says Budweiser? Are they fanatics? Or when people wear a garment that has the name of a state or city, I LUV scuba diving, does that make them a fanatic?
But if someone wears a garment under their clothing as a private devotion to honor the Virgin Mary that demonstrates they are fantatics, right?
I assume you are serious in raising this question. Where could such a notion come from? Good grief!
The Brown Scapular of OLMC works hand in hand with the Rosary. St. Padre Pio said the scapular was his shield and the rosary was the weapon against the devil. After all, we are the Church Militant, engaged in spiritual warfare, as St. Paul tells us.I’ve heard of the brown scapular but I’ve never seen anyone who wears it. I hope I didn’t offend anyone with the title of this thread but I would imagine anyone who publicly wore the scapula would be labelled as a fanatic.

I know that it is a great way to express your devotion to the Blessed Mother, but I would find it rather inconvenient. What do you do when you want to go to the gym? Can you take it off? Also, what about on hot days, or when you go to bed? Do you have to wear it when you go to work? All who pray the rosary should be enrolled in the confraternity of the Brown Scapular OLMC. Any priest can bless your first wool scapular and the blessing carries over to all future scapulars. It is really easy. Just do it!
Rose Scapular Company sells an athletic brown scapular for outside and vigorous activities. I have a few. They go around your neck like a choker chain. This is also called a Mel Gibson scapular as these are the only kind he wears.I know that it is a great way to express your devotion to the Blessed Mother, but I would find it rather inconvenient. I have gotten the impression that you aren’t supposed to take it off. Are there times when you can take it off and not wear it?
I didn’t know this. I wonder why they are still being made? Oh well, I guess it’s back to brown dye stains on all my lighter colored shirts from perspiration etc. Maybe I’ll just buy brown t-shirts from now on…Actually no longer true according to the revised rite of blessing and enrollment in the scapular approved by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments in 1996.
That being said, wool is traditional and most commonly used.
