When someone sins wearing the scapular, does that make it a sacrilege?

NO! Heavens, no!

God would never place restrictions like that on the wearing of the scapular.

Those who wear scapulars are as human as the next man. It won’t hurt you any more if you sin, even mortally, than when you don’t wear it. It’s a helpful sacramental.

In order for it to be sacrilege you would have to have ‘used’ the scapular itself in a sin, in order to defile it. Wearing it when you stumble is not sacrilege, stumbling to defile it on purpose would be.

you might want to say a prayer and head to confession though.
