So I recently got a washable scapular of pure wool with some images embroidered on it. I got a washable one so I could wear it in he shower, but here’s the thing: fibres of it come off when it is wet, when I am washing it and when I am drying it. The fibres are no larger than the hair on your forearms, but they are, or were, part of the scapular. My question is what I should do about this. On the one hand, it is a “washable” scapular, and considering that it is cloth, some of it is probably expected to come apart over time. That being said, I wonder if it is considered doing harm to the sacramental to wear it in the shower if it being wet risks some fibres coming off of it. SInce they no longer resemble the scapular at all, do I need to dispose of them by burning? Do I need to just not wash the thing or wear it when showering because of this or does the fact that it is fabric and thus is expected to degrade over time have any impact? I’d love to hear y’all’s opinions on this because I don’t want to damage a scapular, but I also don’t want to be taking it off unnecessarilly.
