I have had a lot of difficulty finding a proper scapular medal… can anybody help me with a question?

Does the medal have to be the Sacred Heart of Jesus on one side and the image of Mary on the other? Do four-way medals work too… such as a medal with the Sacred Heart of Jesus, The Miraculous Medal, the image of Saint Joseph, and the image of Saint Christopher? I have found medals labled as four-way scapular medals… but I am not sure that they are reputable.

Thanks for any help.

Yes a four-way medal would be acceptable. Remember that the Scapular can be replaced by a medal if there is a serious reason to replace it. Not because one simply does not “like” the wool scapular.

Thank you for the help Brother. At this point in my life, I am fearful that I would ruin many wool scapulars through regular, continuous daily wear (multiple showers, wear during athletics, etc…). I do not feel that this would be a vain reason to switch to a medal, but if you think so, please let me know.

I live in the south and it gets hot during the summer. I’m not that much into jogging or arobics. I would not recomend wearing it in the shower, I suppose that would be one way to wash it? I generally replace my Scapular once a year with a new one that I get while on annual retreat. Nothing wrong with replacing it every year.

From the document of St. Pius X:
It must be blessed with a separate blessing for each of the scapulars in which the person has been enrolled and for which the wearer wishes it to suffice. Finally, these separate blessings may be given by a single sign of the cross (unico crucis signo), whether in the act of enrollment or later at the convenience of those enrolled, it matters not how long after the enrollment or in what order they may have taken place; the blessing may be given by a priest other than the one who made the enrollment, as long as he possesses the faculty, ordinary, or delegated, of blessing the different scapulars- the limitations, clauses, and conditions attached to the faculty he uses still holding their force.
I’m wearing the five fold scapular and the St. Joseph one. If I were to get a single medal for these, what blessings would the priest need to do. Is there a particular formula?
