I am not a Roman Catholic but am drawn to Marian devotion. I pray the Rosary wear the green scapular. I was reading about the Scapular of the Seven Sorrows of Mary and it said you could be enrolled as long as you were baptized. My question is must you be baptized by a RC preist or does it count as long as you are baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son , and of the Holy Spirit? If I was baptized outside of the RC church will a priest still enrole me? Sorry I know I’m not being very clear.

Your questions are very clear.

There would be no problem for you to be invested in the Servite scapular…or you could simply have it blessed and wear it. Whether you go the route of a simple blessing or the rite of investiture, both faculties are now held by all priests as well as all deacons. The rite of investiture is contained in the Book of Blessings, which a priest or deacon should have at hand. The formula can also be had in writing, along with the means to obtain a scapular of Our Lady of Sorrows, here:

The Servite scapular pre-dates the Reformation, as you probably know.

Today we have Benedictine Oblates who are invested in the Benedictine scapular and go on to make Oblation while living their lives as non-Catholic Christians who are nevertheless Oblates of a Benedictine monastery.

Edited to add: I assume that you are in America. If you are one of us who are Europeans, let me know and I will give you a European contact based on where you are in Europe.

The Servites nd their spirituality has been a blessing in my life and I hope that will be true for you, too
