What are they? What are they used for? Can “Regular” Catholics use them? How would you get them if so?🤷

Read that the Carmelite Monks wore a large cloth on the front and back of their habits in the kitchen and in the fields for protection for their habits.

I think the scapular bone is your shoulder bone, and little wonder that Mary should present them for spiritual protection, when the after-all were used for physical protection.

You can get them online or at a Catholic store, you have to be enrolled, but every scapular you replace after that doesn’t need to be Blessed.

Brown Scapular

Sorry I’m just really confused. I’ve just heard of it today. So your parish priest has to do all that; on the page you gave me?

There are shorter versions, usually when you buy the Scapular there is a small sheet of paper with some history on it, and the form of enrollment.

Best to speak to a Priest about it, there are short versions and long versions of enrollment.

Certainly you are allowed to wear it.

It used to be that children that were making their First Holy Communion were enrolled in the Scapular.

I’m getting one after my Confirmation, however I don’t know where. I want to make sure that it is quality. I like this website: sistersofcarmel.com

Don’t see any problem with your age. Just know that it is a commitment and that you actually have to wear it, if you expect the Indulgence.
I plan on it. For just wearing it, and a few prayers every day; it seems like a good deal.

It seems like you have to sleep with it however. I wouldn’t want to do that for fear of strangulation. I never sleep with necklaces on.

Sleep with it? Well I don’t think I would die with it. Could always like put it next to me, think God would understand.

I have slept with a Scapular on for over forty years. The only time I take it off is in the shower.

It is part of the devotion to wear the Scapular day and night.

Thank you for that website! I especially like the ones that the sisters hand sew…they are soft and durable.
Ok, I will probably buy one there. I also will probably buy a St. Benedict Medal. Always could use more protection. 🙂

A lot of scapulars will come with a St Benedict medal already attached, sometimes a crucifix as well. Check whether yours has before you go buying a separate medal.
