I did a search and not a single thread on this topic showed up! I feel like such a failure at searching…

Anyway!

My questions are quick and simple;

A: Should a Scapular be visible when you wear it?
B: Must you get it blessed before you wear it? (I read somewhere that you should but I’ve been wearing mine and it’s unblessed)
C: Are wooden Scapular’s all right? The ones I’ve read about are all cloth… or medal but mine is wooden and small.

Thank you in advance. 🙂

A. No, it should not be visible.
B. your initial scapular is bless when a priest enrolls you in the scapular using the investment ceremony. Subsequent scapulars need not be blessed. They become blessed when you put them on after enrollment. Like a priest’s vestment (they are actually a vestment) they are blessed by virtue of the fact that you wear them.
C. The brown scapular should be made of wool and worn against the body.

Oh! Now I have more questions. What is an investment ceremony? I suppose I’ll have to talk to my priest now… Haha.

It is usually contained in the packet with a new scapular. Its proper long and short version is contained in the Rituale. You can probably Google the short version … it isn’t long. Be sure you are prepared to fulfill the daily requirement for enrollment.

The scapular I bought came with no such thing. It is a wooden little thing… I was surprised because I was under the impression Scapular’s should be cloth. 🙂

I’ll look into it. Thanks for the info!!

Your first brown scapular is to be brown wool (100% wool to be authentic). Then after that is worn out, you can replace it with a metal or wood-pendant one.

Not sure what you have if its wooden. Like others have said, a scapular is two woolen rectangles with a cord of some sort to attach the two ends. On one of the rectangles is sewn a picture of Mary/Jesus giving the scapular to ST. Simon Stock; on the other end is some wording that says," whosoever dies wearing this Scapular shall not suffer eternal fire".

The above is for the Brown Scapular. I also have a green scapular which is similar but is somewhat different and I believe has different promises.

For the Investiture ceremony you can search for it on the internet. Thats how I found it.

God Bless

The brown scapular should be wool. It is meant to be worn under your clothing, but there is nothing sinful about it showing.

Here’s a good site with information about the history and procedures for wearing the scapular. The investiture prayers are at the end of the page.

Read above web pages! Metal is reservered for certain conditions . Wood ?
