Can someone explain to me what scapulars are used for?
It’s not wrong, but it might be considered redundant. You were invested into the scapular, so there is no need to have it done again, even by a Carmelite priest. Besides, by wearing the Brown Scapular you share in the graces of all the Masses offered by every Carmelite priest, plus all of the prayers of the whole order. So while being invested again would carry some sentimental value, you already share in all the graces of the order! If the OP won’t mind, I also have a question about the scapular.
I was invested to wear the Carmelite Brown Scapular back in grade school - by the order which runs our school (not Carmelite order). I know that the Vatican allowed this some time ago, and my investiture is legitimate. But, if I wish to be invested again but by a Carmelite priest, will it also be considered legitimate? Redundant? Or outright wrong?
Thanks.

You don’t need to be re-invested. You can procure a brown scapular and it is just as blessed as the first one was.If the OP won’t mind, I also have a question about the scapular.

Just one point of clarification. The scapular does not get blessed. When one is invested with any of the scapulars - the blessing is on the person and not on the scapular. That is why even when you replace a worn scapular you do not need to have it blessed you merely put it on.You don’t need to be re-invested. You’re right. Mea culpa.Just one point of clarification. The scapular does not get blessed. When one is invested with any of the scapulars - the blessing is on the person and not on the scapular. Actually that is why scapulars are one of my favorite sacramentals…it means we are the sacramental - how awesome is that! You’re right. Mea culpa.
