Scare tactics used towards Catholics

As a Canadian, how many Americans sneak over there across the border illegally to live as a Canadian? How many Canadians illegally cross the border into America?

On each point, I don’t know.
On each point, I doubt there are many. Canada is a prosperous country and from what I’ve heard almost all illegals are trying to escape poverty or persecution or both.

I know the feeling I have to go through the same thing when I go home to see the family or help them out

I like how that remark has nothing to with what an actual Catholic would say.

Make it a daily goal: Daily Mass.

Maybe at noon.

Maybe at 6am.

Maybe only a visit to the Blessed Sacrament.

But aim for it.

Ignore the others.

Do not offer any explanations.

A couple of stories:

A couple of stories:

I worked (as a temp) in one place for more than ten years. [Go figure.]

Every day, I would “disappear” at lunch time and attend Mass at a “chapel” that no body knew about.

Some of my office mates were upset that I didn’t join them for lunch each day, but I just said I needed to go for a walk.

One day, I was in my cubicle doing my grimble work and a [very extremely attractive] woman from another department snuck up on me and put her luscious lips about 1/8" from my right ear and whispered, “I know where you go on your lunch hour.”

And then before the situation could get awkward, she suddenly glanced up and she said “Oh, what a beautiful crucifix” … it was pinned to the wall of my cubicle.

I reached over and disconnected it from the wall, and handed it to her, “It’s the Cross of San Damiano. It’s yours.”

She said, “OH!” and levitated and glided back to her area.

Never saw her again.

I went to the store and asked to buy another one, but they had changed suppliers and could’t get any more.

The following Sunday was Palm Sunday. For some reason, my wife and I went to separate Masses that day. I went early and got a seat and next to me there was a large family I had never seen before. They gave the kids palms to play with and the little girl … maybe eight years old … spent the entire Mass weaving a palm cross. After Mass, the family left and the woven palm cross was left laying on the pew bench. I waited but they never came back. So I put the palm cross in my pocket and took it to work and pinned it to the cubicle wall.

Another story. I had to go to Seattle for business. Long trip. When I got to the hotel, I looked up in the phone book for the name of a local church. The phone book was not helpful, so I just called any Catholic Church. A priest answered and I asked if he knew of a church near my hotel that had an early morning Mass. He did and for the week, I went “for a walk” each morning and went to 6:30 morning Mass.

I’ve encountered it online and in RL. I choose to pray for those who use those words and others. They must be very sad inside if they must resort to accusations and name calling.

Hello.

I really liked that one CD that said to tell people who say these things to you, “I feel judged when you say that to me.” It turns their own tactics back on them so that they are faced with their own behavior. I bet they don’t want to feel that they’re being judgmental.

A family member made fun of me because I had a Sunday missal and called me “Sister Mary ________ (fill in my name)”.

Persecution is part of our lot – take a look at the Beatitudes - we are very blessed when we’re persecuted in Jesus’ name.

Well, there are Catholics, and then there are heretics. Which one are you?

That name calling doesn’t bother me at all; I just keep in mind that these are people who believe that Bruce Jenner is a woman, and I dismiss them accordingly.

If you wish not to be affected by those scare tactics, then do not discriminate or judge other people for what they are (unless you are doing so already). Luke 6:37 is a great Bible verse to look at for this topic.

That verse is about judging the state of someone’s soul, which only God can accurately do. We are free to judge actions which are plain to see.

I get called lots of things. My personal favorite came from a female criminal defendant who called me a giant walking anatomical part with legs… at least she didn’t say I was a tiny one 🙂

Been called a racist, bigot, sexist, etc. long before I explored Catholicism. Been threatened with death a few times before I explored Catholicism.

I don’t let these be “scare” tactics.
