Being Anglican we don’t have a set time as such though sometimes some priests have done that near Easter etc.

But i found that they have all been pretty good at listening and allowing me to be very private and gone when no one is around. I did try just before a service with this present priest. The first time it was okay as no one came early. But the 2nd time someone did come early so he quickly thought of the vestry ā€˜thankfully’ and that person who came early came into the vestry - oops. (they never do, it wasn’t their fault as such)

But it did me a favour in the third time he didn’t say anything when I booked a time well away from any service and the church be empty. Thats how I always done in the past. Not that my sins are any worse - err i guess 😃 etc, just that I am a very private person and prefer it that no one knows I even been though one friend does but thats all. No matter how busy he is, he always seems to make it as though he has lots of time to hear a confession or hear and be with you anyway when in that need. So if you’re scared of going to confession try booking it at another time via arrangement with him. Priests are very kind in confession in my experience. Try not to be worried though we all do so and you will feel better for going.

Trust me, the Priest will be pleased to welcome you back to the Sacament of Penance, you have nothing to worry about - after all it is a Sacrament of Healing.

No. Priests have the power to absolve other people’s sins through confession but not the power to absolve their own sins through confession. The same goes for priests who have divine healing power. They explicitly say that they can’t use this power for themselves but they can use it for other people.

They have to go to another priest for confession. It is not an option.
Yep.

A priest does NOT have authority to forgive his own sins. He MUST go to another priest for Confession.

As the Bible says, ā€œconfess your sins to one anotherā€.

I wouldn’t worry about it…priests should be happy you’re back and still trying, not mad at you for being gone or breaking rules.

Then again…I left my church around 9th grade and when I came back to my childhood church, my priest (who apparently had clear memories of me being in trouble a lot as a kid), hit me with a Bible and said Hitler was a better Christian than me.

I think he was kidding.

The only time I went to confession was 4 years ago which was during my first communion. I’m scared to go now. I feel like my priest will be angry when I say I haven’t been to confession for 4 years. Any advice? Thanks 😃
If you’re worried about your priest being angry then go find a nearby parish (where your voice won’t be recognized) and confess there…not face to face but behind the screen. In that way you will have total anonymity.

There are plenty of guides to confession out there that you can use, not only for an examination of conscience but that will take you step-by-step through the process. The Knights of Columbus have a couple of good, easy to use resources here and here. You can have the act of contrition written down on a 3X5 note card and take it in with you, so that way you don’t have to have it memorized.

Get to confession. Someplace.

Well, that explains why šŸ˜‰

I just signed up the other day, to submit a question. I wanted to have a more discerned opinion of that woman in Europe who is receiving messages.

There’s a website www.thewarningthesecondcoming.com that I came across. Personally, if this person is promoting Divine Mercy, I think it has to be coming from Jesus.

I posted this link earlier today, but because it’s such a fantastic message, I’m going to post it again. Every time I get scared to go to confession, I listen to this homily. And if I’m still scared, I listen to it again. Seriously. Listen to this.

The Sacrament of Penance (Part 1)

Hey Oneofthewomen,

I sent the question about priests confessing to ask an apologist forum cause we could argue about it all day and get no where :dts:

The important thing is WE should try and go to confession regularly.

Hey sorry I did not get a reply from my query about priests being able to do a self confession.

Possibly Fr Sepra (you often answers the forum) was not sure about it either.

Anyway it doesn’t really matter for you or me 'cause we’re not priests. I’m still planning to go on saturday.
