This may be strange but I have a fear of believing in God and Jesus. I want to with all my heart, but I’m scared of the reactions of others, the change that would occur in myself and also the fact that I have multiple mental illnesses which cause me to do things against church teaching (ex. I take birth control because of the effects of my medication). I have OCD and can get quite obsessive about things, so I fear scrupulousity. I’m scared that my atheist beliefs when I was younger have turned my husband into an unbeliever, so I’m guilty of sending him to hell. Any advice?

Whats the alternative to not believing??? Staying where u are now…

Also, with the birth control… it can be a legitimate medication for some medical issues. What’s your intent with using it ? If you intent is to use it to help a legitimate medical problem and not as a way to withhold children…it’s not a sin.

Don’t be afraid. Submit and journey on…put the ball in God’s court. You won’t be off worse than u already are.

God bless

you need professional counseling, not opinions on an internet forum. God bless.

👍 And I’m praying for you, thesearch. God is calling you.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

I think God would say to you, don’t be afraid any more. I think you are brave but I think you will be surprised at the many people who are waiting to meet you in Christ and that when you feel the strength God gives you when you allow yourself to accept, your concerns will have solutions, especially as you learn to trust the tough stuff you mention to God, which is now your happy privilege. It is - amazing grace.

Welcome! 🙂

I don’t it is at all strange that you fear this. I felt like that at the beginning of my journey. I gave a bit of myself but was afraid to give all, because I feared losing myself, what people would say, and how my life would change. I spent many years in this fear, feeling like I was standing on the edge of the cliff and not knowing what would happen if I jumped.

But then I made that leap of faith, put everything in God’s hands and decided to give Him my whole heart. I think the best way to describe the result is that I now feel like myself, the way I did not before while I was holding back.

If I were you I would start praying for courage and faith. if you are not used to praying it will feel strange at first, but keep going. Open your heart and hand over your fears and all your questions. I believe you will get an answer that will help you move forward.

God bless.

Thank you all for your replies.

Bisco- I’ve been in counselling for years, believe it or not, ideas of faith in God are not something the doctors I’ve spoken to are keen on listening to. It’s more of a " try this medication then" response. That is why I’m turning to people who actually believe in God, not big pharma. I’m hoping that by beginning my quest here, I can find people with the answers I seek.

MichealHowling- unfortunately, the birth control is for withholding children. This certain medication I’m prescribed can cause terrible effects on myself or an unborn child, should I get pregnant while on it, including death of the baby. Where I’m conflicted is that, it’s been the only medication to truly work for me.

Petra, KLM, Contra - thank you for your encouraging words! Your prayers mean a lot!

I was praying/ thinking about this last night and I think I’m ready to tell my husband that I want to start going to church. I know that I’ll be met with resistance but I think if my husband sees that I’m going in this direction, maybe he will follow eventually.

Don’t let the birth control question hold you back. This is something to discuss with an orthodox priest. The situation is complex and the moral issue is best addressed with a priest. There are many knowledgeable people here, but we can’t give you definite answers, it is simply not our job.

Good luck with telling your husband. Pray for him and don’t push him into anything. Let God work on him and just lead by example.

Please come back if you want to chat about anything or just need prayers. It is important to have company on the journey.

Hello TheSearch

I think we bring all of us to God - our fear, our weaknesses, our strengths, our courage. It’s alight to be afraid. If being afraid is where you are at just at the moment then don’t fight it - bring it along.

God bless +

Michael

You should be scared of offending God and of going to hell, not scared of believing in your holy Lord, heavenly Father and loving Saviour. Who cares what others think when in the end all that truly matters is what God thinks (of you). Who you are and will become will determine how God thinks of you on Judgment Day and where you swill pend your eternity. **Eternal pain **is not worth the pleasing of friends who don’t really accept you for who you are and Whom you love. God bless you.

My prayers will be with you in your difficult yet loving journey. God Bless you and ask Beautiful Mary for help. She loves you unconditionally and she will get you very close to her son Jesus. Mary, mother of God and son Jesus, pray for us.

You can start small. You can take baby steps at first and embark on what Christianity, particularly what the Catholic church teaches. You can start with reading and try to get yourself a spiritual advisor you can trust. Pray.

God is always willing to meet you where you currently are and then go on a journey of discovery with you.

Praying for you.
