So for awhile now I have been doing weekly Confessions. One of the reasons why though is because there are certain sins that I am struggling with. I have gone to other parish’s for Confessions and what not. But now I am at the point where I am scared to go anymore because I am still committing the same sins. It isn’t that I am not trying, but rather the fact that I really am struggling with certain sins (that I would prefer to keep private). I am scared that the Priest might get mad or annoyed or something. Also every time before Confession I get really nervous and I do not know why. Sometimes before Confession I will pray that Jesus will calm me down. And that works, but once I step into that Confessional box the nerves act up again. Really I just post this in hope that I will be able to relate to some people, and that I will be able to get to comfort I really need before this Saturday.

I was in a similar situation for many years.

What I did was find one confessor who I trusted, and then went to him regularly and face-to-face. Thus my confessions became not only “kind and number” but also counselling sessions where we discussed the psychological background and recovery plans (in about 10 minutes - not 60!).

Eventually the weekly confession of the same sins ended when I got into a 12 step program.

It’s like going into a swimming hole or into a hot bath. First you have to arrive at the right time, then you examine your conscience and go over what you’re going to say (which is like tip-toeing into the water) and then you dive into the pool of divine mercy, no matter how un-acclimatized you are. You come out feeling great with all the muck washed away.

Hey man I’m going to confession for the first time in a while this saturday…let’s make a pact: we both go and report back after, okay?

I can definitely relate. Most people can. Including priests–remember that priests have to go to confession too, and remember that they hear it all. They shouldn’t be mad at you, but rather glad that you are presenting yourself for healing. Remember that confession is the font of mercy where the Lord pours himself out to us for our healing and salvation. And remember that the devil would rather you not drink from that font. If you are nervous and afraid, call upon the name of Jesus and rebuke the devil, then confess your sins to the Lord through the priest, rejoicing in the salvation you receive there.

Confession is certainly always scary. I confessed a few weeks ago, and I was pretty freaked out, shaking and everything (I think my voice was shaky too).

The priest shouldn’t get mad or annoyed. He’ll probably be happy that you’re coming to Confession at all; certainly confessors don’t get a whole lot of business these days, unfortunately. I mean, you could even explain that you’re struggling with it and that it keeps on happening even though you’re trying. The fact that you keep coming back to Confession shows that you are seeking the good.

Good luck!!!

Matthew 18:21-22:
Forgiveness

21 Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven.
Jesus to St. Faustina -

"…when you go to confession, to this fountain of My mercy, the Blood and Water which came forth from My Heart always flows down upon your soul and ennobles it. Every time you go to confession, immerse yourself entirely in My mercy, with great trust, so that I may pour the bounty of My grace upon your soul. When you approach the confessional, know this, that I myself am waiting there for you. I am only hidden by the priest, but I myself act in your soul. Here the misery of the soul meets the God of mercy. Souls draw graces solely with the vessel of trust. If their trust is great, there is no limit to My generosity. The torrents of grace inundate humble souls." (Diary, 1603).

Jesus to Catalina:
The Passion - loveandmercy.org/Eng-TP-Reg.pdf

I want to teach sinners that because they have sinned, they should not distance themselves from Me thinking that they no longer have recourse and that they will never be loved as before they sinned. Poor souls! These are not the feelings of a God who has shed all His Blood for you. Come to Me all of you and fear not, because I love you. I will cleanse you with My Blood and you will be as white as snow. I will drown your sins in the water of My Mercy and nothing will be able to snatch from My Heart the Love that I have for you.
Jesus to St. Faustina -

Oh, how much I am hurt by a soul’s distrust! Such a soul professes that I am Holy and Just, but does not believe that I am Mercy and does not trust in My Goodness. Even the devils glorify My Justice but do not believe in My Goodness (Diary, 300).
Jesus to Catalina:
The Passion - loveandmercy.org/Eng-TP-Reg.pdf

**Contemplate My wounds and see if there is anyone who has suffered as much as I, to show their love…

Contemplate for a moment these bloodstained hands and feet… This naked body, covered with wounds, with urine, and blood. Dirty… This head punctured by sharp thorns, soaked in sweat, full of dust, and covered in Blood…

Contemplate your Jesus, hanging on the Cross, without being able to make the slightest movement… naked, without fame, without honor, without liberty…

Contemplate Me in the image of the Christ that weeps and bleeds. There and in this way the world has Me.**

13) My children, poor sinners! Do not distance yourselves from Me. I wait for you night and day at the Tabernacle. I will not reproach you for your crimes; I will not throw your sins in your face. What I will do is to wash you with the Blood of My wounds. Do not be afraid; come to Me. You do not know how much I love you.
he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities… by his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

Jesus to St. Faustina -

"My mercy is greater than your sins and those of the entire world. Who can measure the extent of my goodness? For you I descended from heaven to earth; for you I allowed myself to be nailed to the cross; for you I let my Sacred Heart be pierced with a lance, thus opening wide the source of mercy for you. Come, then, with trust to draw graces from this fountain. I never reject a contrite heart. Your misery has disappeared in the depths of My mercy" (Diary, 1485).

**Tell sinful souls not to be afraid to approach Me; speak to them of My great mercy **(Diary, 1396).

"From all My wounds, like from streams, mercy flows for souls, but the wound in My Heart is the fountain of unfathomable mercy. From this fountain spring all graces for souls. The flames of compassion burn Me. I desire greatly to pour them out upon souls" (Diary, 1190).

How to Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy

My Heart overflows with great mercy for souls, and especially for poor sinners. If only they could understand that I am the best of Fathers to them and that it is for them that the Blood and Water flowed from My Heart as from a fount overflowing with mercy. For them I dwell in the tabernacle as King of Mercy. I desire to bestow My graces upon souls, but they do not want to accept them. You, at least, come to Me as often as possible and take these graces they do not want to accept. In this way you will console My Heart. (Diary, 367).

The Great Crusade of Mercy - loveandmercy.org/Eng-CM-Reg.pdf

11) Mercy is love, My child. It is union with God and union with God is the certitude of victory and an everlasting abundance of virtues. Mercy is the unquestionable proof of love for Me.
God Bless you.

This is a very beautiful response. Thank you very much for going through all that work just to relate this to me. This is exactly what I needed to see. Thank you and God bless you.

You are right. Right before Confession whenever I get nervous I always call upon Jesus to calm me down. As well as the Blessed Mother so that she may pray for me. I try to remind myself not to care what the priest does or says (in the case that he may not seem too happy), because no matter how he may react Jesus is with me in there, and that is all that counts.

You are right about the fact that the priest is probably happy that I am going to Confession as much as I do. And considering that I am a teenager he probably takes delight in hearing a younger voice every once in awhile concerned about their faith.

haha, it’s okay, it’s just something a little extra I thought id throw in there that you might like. 🙂

God Bless.
I read it! It does seem very inspirational, and does make me a bit less nervous to go to Confession. However once I walk into Church my mind will go blank, and I will probably get a bit nervous again.

So I went to Confession, the Priest was really nice. I felt very comfortable speaking to him.

If your mind goes blank (as does mine) in confession then write down all your sins from your examination of conscience before you go and take that paper with you. It always works for me. It’s easier to have done your examination of conscience earlier so that you can write without problem.
