I have to go for confession in less than 12 hours . I am a teenager and I’m an introvert. I don’t mind going for confession but as an introvert I practically freak out before going. I know that the priest won’t judge me but I still get very nervous and I often forget my sins since I get nervous. Do yall have any tips on how to overcome my nervousness. I’m recovering confirmation in a few weeks and I want this confession to be a really good one. I’m sooo scared … please give me some tips . Btw I’m 15 years old from Mumbai

Pray that the Holy Spirit will guide you. The Bible says do not fear 365 times. I’m not a believer in coincidences. 🙂

Also do a Catholic Examination of Conscience, look one up online. It helps you remember sins to be confessed.

You are welcome! Feel free to PM me or reply here if you need help.

I’m an introvert, too, so I understand! It can be intimidating, particularly when we are young.

Obviously, as TTLE said, praying for the Holy Spirit’s guidance and for a sense of peace is important to do. He wants to help you!

I think something else that helps to overcome that fear is to go to Confession frequently—generally, once a month. The more often we do something, the more familiar it becomes, and it becomes a little easier and not so scary every time we go.

As for what to do at this next Confession of yours, I know some people find it helpful to write things down. That way, once you get in there, you don’t have to worry about forgetting anything, nor even concern yourself so much with working up the nerve to say this or that sin. All you have to do is read your little paper. That always helps me in stressful situations. I don’t have to use my brain as much, nor worry about articulating things on the fly. All I have to do is read what I wrote.

Of course, you want to make sure you destroy the paper afterwards. 🙂

I will say a prayer for you regarding this and your upcoming Confirmation. There are lots of graces in store for you! That is awesome!

I still find it useful to write out my
confession in a simple bullet point format. It makes it easier to read and if I need to add any extra details (e.g. how many times, or if I maybe lost my temper with a certain family member my relationship to them). Doing it this way means I won’t waffle and I also won’t miss out anything which I think may be important. I destroy the list straight after confession.

Thanks a lot…I’m happy that I’m not the only one who feels this way. I will try to go for confession once a month. As for tomorrow I’ll pray for god’s grace and hope that all goes well. Thanks for ur prayers

I’m definitely gonna do it…I’m doing it as we speak . Thanks a lot

You may be more comfortable confessing behind a screen. Many churches have confessionals that offer both options - the penitent can walk in and kneel down at the screen, or go around it to sit face-to-face with the priest. Many older churches have confessionals that only allow the penitent to confess behind a screen.

Just tell the priest you’re nervous. It’s okay. It’s very common to be nervous before confession. Just tell the priest and he’ll probably help you along and put you at ease.

I’m an introvert, myself.

Here’s what I do:

Go to the Blessed Sacrament and pray for the grace of a good Examination of Conscience and a good Confession. Next, I do the Examination and I write it all down; including my attachments to those sins. Don’t be afraid. Father’s heard every kind of sin, so don’t worry.

After that: Pray that you receive the grace of a good and thorough conversion of mind, heart and soul from sin and to desire the state of grace above all things so you may receive Our Lord at any time.

God bless, and I hope this helps.

This is also good advice. Most all the priests I know are very good about helping people through and putting them at ease. They deal with this all time. They are good at it. 🙂

Priests are used to hearing all sorts of sins, yours are probably unlikely to shock a priest, so maybe just grit yoyr teeth and make it into the confessional. If you really can 't face it, I would say, if you can, then perhsps go to a priest who doesn’t know you and confess behind a screen.

As for forgetting your sins, write them down beforehand and bring the list with you.

With Confession, I find that the more often you go and the more regularly you go, the less anxious you become.

After a while, if you go regularly to several different priests you can end up specifically going to different priests depending on what you are going to confess and whether you want guidance relating to different areas.

But the most important thing is to get yourself there. So just go and get yourself into the confessional box.

It may help you to remember that Jesus is there at your confession. Remember the Gospel accounts of how he loved and forgave sinners. He loves you just like that. 💖

Unfortunately since this confession has been arranged specifically for the confirmation students we have to do it face to face. We don’t have the option of behind the screen

Yeah I’m planning on going to the blessed sacrament before confession so that I can pray for god’s blessings and be at ease. Thanks for the suggestion it did help.
