Do you watch scary movies (horror movies)?? What are your favorites? Least favorite? What is the scariest horror film you have ever seen? Im going to see The Conjuring next week. Hope it will be good!! Also has anyone seen The Exorcism of Emily Rose? I think I might watch it. Im usually not someone to see scary movies though.

Not sure if it counts as a “horror movie”, but Outbreak was the scariest movie I ever watched. Of course… I was like 10 years old or something when I watched it.

Oh the nightmares. Whenever I got sick I remember rushing to my parents’ 1994 edition Encyclopedias and reading up on cancer and serious illnesses.

Encyclopedia: “Symptoms may include nausea”

Me: “Noooooooooooo!”

I can’t really handle them. I bought (but should’ve rented) Black Swan. It’s a movie about ballet, ya know? Pretty dancing, tutus, over the top competitiveness; I’m cool with all that. But “other stuff” freaked me right out. The blood didn’t bother me, it was the crunching sound when a dancer broke something. I can hear it in my brain as though I had DVD hooked up to my head.

I also saw the Woman in Black in the cinema. Watched it through my fingers scrunched down in my seat.

I hope Horns isn’t like that.

I’ve only seen one horror movie– Troll 2. It is by far the best worst movie ever

I try to avoid horror and scary movies. If I see one or only parts of one I have bad dreams. I think if, esp.among the young, the less blood and gore, violent movies, there would be less tragedy in real life for the younger, more vulnerable, younger watchers. There is war on for all the souls of all of us. Just my opinion.

The ring is the creepiest movie I have seen in my life. It has some serious subliminal messages in there.and I’ve known people who got.sick after watching it. I wonder if it has some hypnosis thing in there too. That said I uses to love scary movies until I watched the ring. Haven’t seen the exorcism of Emily rose but given that it was after the ring and given the ring’s succes, I wonder if it has similar hypnosis/ subliminal messages.

No one should be watching horror movies.

It’s a myth that you “need to know” about these topics. That’s complete rubbish.

Stay away from these things.

Read the Bible.

I enjoy the older scary movies like Poltergeist where the fear is because of supernatural things.

I dislike the more recent films like Jason and all the successors. What I call “slice and dice” pictures where they scare you by showing graphic violence.

And Blair Witch Project has to be the most boring thing I have ever seen.

Again, Troll 2. I don’t tend to like gore, but that special effects are so bad that I don’t mind.

Blair Witch Project didn’t freak me out as a whole but if you want to see me run screaming from a room or wet myself, wear a plaid shirt and stand facing a corner.

The Skeleton Key was my favorite.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is my favorite series. I’ve ran into many strange homes walking through the sticks. Haha, was always reminded of that.

What impact do some of these horror films have on your religious beliefs, especially when dealing with the supernatural and what are your opinions on movie portrayals religious figures, like priests, in such films?

I hope it’s not too off topic…

In regards to Catholicism, horror movies tend to make priests either:

Powerful:

Exorcisms, powers, able to fight off demons etc.

Weak:

Powerless, lamb being led to the slaughter etc.

It just was incredibly boring. I had to change channels to stay awake.

I saw the Exorcist when it first came out and I was barely old enough. Now movies have gone so far the E is probably boring. But at the time I was terrified and held my rosary in my hands nearly the whole time.

You didn’t see it in the cinema? Maybe that would have made a difference. It was sort of interesting to me because it took place a short drive from where I lived and we thought we could go to the area it “took place.” However, when I saw it on video a couple of years later I found it be a bit of a snooze, too.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen the Exorcist all the way through, and it was probably a cleaned up version on TV. I regularly drove by the stairs where it was filmed and that alone made my hair stand on end.

I like Emily Rose a lot. One of the few pro-Catholic movies out there with the portrayal of a strong priest. Kind of an interesting movie, where it’s part courtroom and part the horrors of the incident in question.

“The Exorcist” sure comes to mind. Man, that was a creepy film… I saw it many times but enjoyed it the most when they re-released it to theaters.
