any Catholic can wear a scapularWho can wear a scapular? Can teenagers? And where can I find them?thanks for all the answers!
I think I like the sky-blue immaculate conception scapular.
the official requirements include that they be made from wool. I don’t know why. Maybe because originaly they were all made from wool. Sometimes these rules just exist for consistency. (not for any superstitious reason)Why is wool better?
You can wear more than one at a time (in response to your PM). There is what is called a “five fold scapular” which is a scapular made of the red, white, green, brown, and (I think) blue scapulars. This way the many scapulars do not become a hindrance under your shirt. Can you have more then one scapular at a time? Thanks.
Hi DakotaSince the OP appears to have been answered, on a related note: What are the rules governing the Scapular of Saint Michael the Archangel?
Hi catholicboy I was researching about scapulars and found this:I think I like the sky-blue immaculate conception scapular.
This is wonderfulHi Dakota
Scapular of St. Michael the Archangel
The scapular of St. Michael the Archangel was established in 1878, when the Church of St. Eustachius in Rome founded a confraternity in his honor. The scapular of St. Michael the Archangel is unique in form, as it is shaped like a shield, one black and one blue. Like the segments of wool, one band or string tying the two pieces together is black and the other is blue. On each shield is the image of St. Michael slaying the dragon along with the words, “Quis ut Deus.” According to the Congregation of Rites the scapular of St. Michael the Archangel may be blessed by any priest.
I hope this helps.God bless
The wool is generally a little irratating to the skin. A constant reminder as it were of Jesus’ Passion and death that we might be saved. It is also said to more accurately reflect the fact that originally the scapular was a tunic worn by Monks of the time period as an outer garment. They were generally made of wool. Why is wool better?
Could I ask exactly what you mean by the bolded part of your statement?catholicboy123:

But the devotion is what is most important in the scapular. They are sacramentals, and must be looked at as such. They are to remind you of certain things (i.e. Devotion to the Church through Mary, most notable by the brown scapular) and are not magic get-out-of-hell free cards. In all honesty, a scapular is almost unnecessary because the requirements for it to “work” are things one should already be doing. Following the precepts of the Church, praying the Rosary, striving to be perfect, etc.
Do not let intrigue in the scapular push you to a level of religiosity that borders–and often becomes–superstitious. I wear the Brown Scapular because I love the Blessed Mother and the Rosary, and one of its promises are to not die without Confession. It is a practical means to perfect end.
