If the presence is around you of the supernatural, can it be left with a pleasant scent? I mean, let’s say there’s an angel flying next to your side, literally (but you can’t see it!), and it leaves a pleasant smell that can’t be from earth…

And there’s nothing around you that gives that scent or any…

This hasn’t happened to me personally, but I’ve heard many people say they could tell that Our Mother was in their presence by the strong scent of roses around them, and there was nothing around them that could give off that scent.

I believe in miracles for sure. I also feel that the devil can appear as an angel of light. I would ask the Lord for help in discernment when it comes to such things. On a lighter note I must say that the scent you describe ‘sounds’ like a wonderful thing.

God Bless

Yep- this happened to my 2 sons and I as we were group hugging at mass - The Feast of the Annunciation. The 3 of us like to hug together when offering peace. In the middle of us was an overwhelming scent of roses. My littlest one noticed it first. It was absolutely amazing.

It is a blessing.

I have never heard of angels leaving a scent. Interesting thought.

No I didn’t experience it yet like that…but sometimes I’ll smell this sweet scent. Don’t know…

What about the scents of saints? Or Jesus?

Or does only Mary leave a scent of Roses? How strong is it or can it be faint?

Yes, praying for discernment is very important & is first and foremost.

Yes, Our Blessed Mother often is associated with the scent of roses and so is St. Therese of the Child Jesus.

I smelled roses once when attending church once with my sister. There was only one person near us and the rose scent was very strong. The lady told me she wasn’t wearing any perfume. I believe is was the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Some holy people have the “odor of sanctity”, which is a gift from God. Padre Pio had it, and when bilocating people would smell him…, and still do. I don’t know why God gives this particuar gift, but I do believe that he does. So, it would be entirely possible for angels to leave a scent, but only for some reason that God has. Also, I have a friend that always smells a certain smell around those into the occult… so evil may have an odor, too.

Yeah, I decieved myself yesterday when I walked into my apartment…I opened my door and walked in and I immediately smelled what smelled like “roses” and that quickly stopped me in my tracks…but then I realized that it was my perfume that smelled like roses.

How can you discern (I mean, describing deeper) the difference? I dislike decieving myself and being decieved. How on earth do you know?

I’ll have to stop using that perfume! 😃

I think until one is sure and recieves a solid yes from the Lord it is wise to assume the miracle is not a miracle. God can make you just know for sure without a shadow of a doubt.

HUh? So you’re saying when one is sure, it’s not a miracle? Huh? I don’t quit get it!

hehe,

I’m saying if it’s a miracle God will show you and there will be no doubt. If there is doubt I would say it is safe to assume it is not a miracle until God makes it clear without a shadow of a doubt that it is a miracle.

On the weekend, i had an over whelming scent of roses, at first i brushed it off as my sisters perfume, but it followed me where ever i went, to the voting poll to the hardware, it would come and go. It brough me peace as we only burried my father in law the previous day so it helped both me and my husband get by, why i could smell it and my husband couldn’t i am not sure.

One thing I use to discern what is from God and what isn’t goes like this:
I smell some beautiful scent, the origin of which I cannot locate. I think, “Ah! The odor of sanctity/Our Lady/an angelic being/etc.” Then, before I do anything else, I pray, “God, I offer this scent up for your glory and your honor.”

I’ve found that if the event (not limited to smells, this can be done with anything you need to discern) is from the Enemy, it goes away, as the devil can’t stand to praise God in any way.

If the event continues (let’s use the aroma scenerio, since that’s what you asked about), I can assume that it’s either divine or common in origin. At this point, since I’ve already offered it up to God’s glory, it doesn’t really matter. Human-made perfume can be quite lovely, and a wonderful way to glorify God (of course, the “Axe” cologne my husband sometimes uses would NOT fall under that category  ). And beautiful scents of a divine nature are intended to do the very same thing- glorify God. Either way, I’ve been reminded to give glory to God in the middle of an ordinary day, and that’s the real point.

Hope that helps-
Cheers,
Cari

I have had this experience twice now. One time was when I was in Adoration at about 5am. I had just finished reading “The Imitation of Christ” by Thomas Kempis and closed my eyes. Suddenly, this very strong smell came over me like nothing I’ve ever smelled before; it was like a mixture of rose and citrus. As soon as I opened my eyes, it went away. I even got up and looked around to see if there was anyone else in the chapel or hall, but there was nothing.

The same thing happened to me a couple weeks later when I was working on our bathroom of all things. I just assumed my wife had lit one of her rose scented candles, but when I asked her later she said she hadn’t.

Not that I’m claiming to have had some kind of divine experience (I try not to seek out sensual consolation from God) but some things hit you a certain way and you don’t forget them.

I’ve smelled Roses when praying the Rosary once or twice. I don’t know about the other things.

But maybe someone just sprayed some Glade. :o
