TAMPA, July 18 (CNA) - Dr. Jack Kevorkian is scheduled to speak at the University of Florida Oct. 11 for a $50,000-speaker fee. “We figure that this will be a great way to engage our student body and entertain,” said Steven Blank of ACCENT, the University of Florida student-government funded speaker’s bureau. “We do understand that this will spark controversy. And that is something we have done in the past,” Blank told LifeSiteNews.com.

Entertainment? You’ve got to be kidding me. Sick!

I think having Dr. Kevorkian speak is not offensive in any way. He isn’t coming to “recruit” people for his cause, like Schiavo’s brother makes it seem. He is an interesting man who has led a very interesting life. This man put his life and his job on the line to do what he thought was best- someone filled with that amount of conviction should be allowed to express it through a speech. I would think Catholics of all people would understand doing something for your cause and beliefs. The Catholic lifestyle isn’t one that is accepted by everybody either- but you feel like you should express your views publicly. Why can’t he? Saying one person is better than another, and some have more rights than others (ex. he doesn’t have the right to speak publicly but others do)- is incredibly hypocritical.
And unlike those of the Catholic religion, he isn’t trying to convert or persuade- he is just speaking. The University of Florida allows people of all different religions to yell in the middle of campus about who is a sinner and who is not. I feel that being told (publicly - on campus) that I fall into a category of people who are “going to hell” is much more offensive and sac religious than anything Dr. Kevorkian will say.
I think his speech will be interesting and educational. I hope this protest doesn’t prevent him from coming to the University of Florida.

ufstudent,

Replace “Dr. Kevorkian” with “Idi Amin” or “Francisco Franco” or perhaps “Kim Il Sung” and read what you wrote again. You could say the same thing about most any killer.

And wouldn’t that be so very tolerant of you?

God Bless,

Now I know you aren’t serious. Is he going to talk about the blandness of prison food for an hour? No, he is going to talk about euthanasia and attempt to persuade people it’s a good idea in spite of it being objectvely wrong by any reasonable standard and not just Catholic.

Sure, he is free to speak, but no one is required to provide him a venue. I hope alumni stop sending checks to the university if they proceed.

He should still be in prison, not collecting $50,000 speaker fees. How many other serial killers are out after only a few years?

Well, mainly because he a murderous, deceitful, disingenuous man who has been held fast in the grip of Satan for many years. But other than that, sure he seems like a swell guy.

Hitler had great conviction too…

I hope Bobby Schindler can make a great effect on the students and everyone paying attention through the media. I was blessed to have been able to talk to him at this year’s National Right to Life Convention. He is a really great guy. Let’s just pray for him that he changes the hearts and minds of some of those students and of the American citizens during this Culture of Death. God please bless him, and grant him more pro-lifers to stand up along side him. Seriously, Bobby is a great guy.
