"Scholarly consensus" sees Moses as a mythical figure?

Most of “the scholars who say he wasn’t” are usually not actually saying that. If I say Moses is a mythic figure, you might understand me to be saying he was not a real person because you have a different idea of myth than I do. Someone might say Moses was not a “real person” because she thinks, mistakenly, real people cannot be myhic figures, etc. It is not uncommon for mistakes like that to be made.

Moses was a real person, but more importantly, the account we have of him in the Torah is inspired by God to present the truth of who he is. This may not match up to our ideas of accuracy. The prophetic Spirit that filled Moses was given to seventy elders who had gathered with him, and to Eldad and Medad. It was not confined to Moses, but shared, and shared not just where it was expected, but with some outsiders. Those who received the spirit wrote the books in a truthful way, but the truth is a deeper truth than we can imagine. It is faithful to the person of Moses in a way that encompasses Moses’ significance wihout neccessarily speaking like a 20th century American or Austalian.

When David was anointed as the Messiah, God told the prophet Samuel “People judge by appearances, but I see the heart.” Appearances are not the strong point of prophetic writings, of Sacred Scripture. God has standards of truth that we barely comprehend.

I did read some articles that address the plagues, as if they really happened, but those “experts” blame them on climate change.

Some articles also say Moses didn’t write those books in the Bible.

How can we maintain our faith when all these experts say that Moses didn’t exist and that the exodus didn’t happen?
No one can believe everything they read. We have to form our knowledge and discern where the truth is. We can’t go bouncing around every time someone writes an article that says something different; that’s the fast track to insanity.

You make it sound like a few articles say Moses never existed, but it’s virtually every one.

Popular publications sometimes throw doubt on the existence of Moses. However this view is generally absent from scholarly literature, that is, in the actual authorities in the matter.
I recall the articles in popular magazines that say Jesus didn’t exist or there was no resurrection, and the like, which have no solid basis for their opinions. I would class articles in popular publications that say there was no Moses among them.

So, do you mean that most of the scholars who are authorities on this subject say Moses was real?

The scholars don’t doubt the existence of Moses. I have published some serious articles on Moses, and the scholars generally believe he was a real person.

Will you please point me to some online articles that indicate scholars generally believe Moses was a real person? I am still finding virtually nothing. I did find something from a JW site, but I’m not a JW. Thanks in advance.

So, wondering if Joseph was sold into Egypt and became second to Pharo during the famine? Was there even such a thing as a Pharo or maybe there is no Egypt? Hope this doesn’t sound snarky… but I’m afraid it does…

Some people theorize that any Egyptian hieroglyphs were destroyed due to embarrassment. Why then isn’t there evidence of walls etc. being scratched up? Or is there?
