School dance is coming up in a month, and I have to buy the tickets this week. I just have a couple of questions.
  1. Is it a sin to go? I already told the girlfriend I’d take her and we have been excited for it.
  2. If its not, what can I tell her about dancing? Theres only one kind of dancing that people do now, and a lot of people on this website say its a mortal sin (even though I have no bad intentions).

It’s not a sin to dance… and there is certainly not only one kind of dance people do. At my high school prom we didn’t dance in any way that was remotely sinful.

Thank you! I may just tell her I don’t like the “grinding.” But to be honest, I only like it because its easy (its extremely uncomfortable; also, I’m a terrible dancer :o )

Maybe the two of you would enjoy taking swing classes together. East Coast Swing is easier than West Coast and there are swing clubs at many colleges. You can also google up lots of “how to do the basic step videos” on youtube.
A two step is an easy way to dance in hold together also-no grinding necessary.
If you practice your basic step and add an extra move every 4 or 5 days, you’ll have a few options by prom and may well get hooked on a new style of dancing. It’s fun.👍

Of course it’s not 😃

Dance the night away. Dancing makes you feel truly alive 😃

Sarah x 🙂

I recently won a dance contest in a bar, and did nothing sinful. Good behavior is good fun.

No, I do not think it is.

Before you go, talk to your date about the type of dancing you are comfortable doing and the kind you will not do. You can’t force her to dance as you want but this way when you chose to sit out a dance type that you find offensive she will understand you are doing it because of your conscience and not because of her.

P.S. - I can’t dance. I know this because my children have begged me not to dance near them in public. 🤷 No matter. When I dance I look into my wife’s eyes and it is all good. Go and enjoy.

And this? If you do this, you must leave the dance immediately and head straight for a confessional.

(Although, I must say that he looks like he’s having a blast, so, in all sincerity, if that’s what you do look like, I say: go for it. Knock yourself out. :))

PR,

I went to school in Milwaukee.

I married a German and have a lot of German relatives.

I’ve been to a number of weddings where there has been dancing.

Could this be a bad version of the chicken dance?

I, too, married a German and now have lots of German relatives. My DH fancies himself to be quite a chicken dance expert.

He didn’t look quite like the guy above when we danced it at our wedding…thank goodness.

Five bucks says he’s dancing to “you know you make me wanna SHOUT!” . . . . .he’s at the part that goes :dancing: “a little bit softer no-ow, a little bit softer no-ow . . . .”:dancing:

Hello, 18 year old Catholic here.

When I was 16, I had a lot of fun at my school dance! I hope you do, too!

I wasn’t even devoted to the Faith yet, but I didn’t feel like grinding and neither did my girlfriend. If she tries, just make it clear you aren’t comfortable. Your school might be different than mine, but I don’t think it will really be a big deal.

It is definitely not a sin to go.

Also, when you slow dance, remember not to let her lead you. Girls love being strongly lead when they slow dance 😃

It certainly helps to hear from someone close to my age. Thank you! And ugh, I know what you mean. I have like lead feet, and the girlfriend is Dominican, they are terrific dancers! I get embarrassed sometimes lol…
