What about one gift that benefits the whole school, such as new recess equipment, a new drum for the music room, or an aquarium, or a Christmas tree for the hall? Or even sponsor an entertainer for their Christmas party? We have a family that sponsors a bounce house for the end of the school year party.

Those are really good ideas!

I don’t see any of the great specials right now that I have in the past for this company, but keep your eye on www.holyheroes.com. They have some story CD’s and coloring books that go on sale for one or two dollars each and make great gifts.

Another idea is to buy each child a sacrifice beads kit. The kits are less than $2 each.

I think it’s wonderful your kids want to buy for the school!

Whoa! They have 100 holy medals for $22!
And 100 chains for $22!

I might have my kids do the same. Medals for everyone!

You could do the sacrifice bead kits yourself. One medal, one crucifix, 10 of one color beads, 1 other bead, a piece of string.

Here in Ireland we are having a shoe box appeal so that every homeless person gets a gift at Christmas…

OP your giving is a beauty and a joy.

I had the same problem with my daughters although it wasn’t for quite so many kids.

I ended up making homemade fudge. I just wrapped up individual pieces in foil and put some curling ribbon around that.

It didn’t seem like much of a gift, but the next year my daughters’ friends starting asking if they could please have fudge again!

You could probably do the same thing with cookies, even store-bought cookies. Perhaps you could wrap up three different kinds of cookies with foil and ribbons.

Our local Catholic high school adopted a grade school in their neighborhood that has a high proportion of students eligible for the lunch program (free or reduced price). The whole school is working to collect both practical items and Christmas gifts for families identified by the grade school as being in need.

If your children want to spread the spirit of Christmas in their school, have them look into that. It is not too late to do something very meaningful for those who are truly in need and to share that opportunity with their classmates. That would be a great gift to their school.

Otherwise, I echo the idea about providing treats, perhaps for all the religion classes (since at a Catholic school usually everyone has to be in one, even the non-Catholic students).

The other thing I would do is to go to whoever is dean or vice principal for spiritual affairs. They may wish they had the money to give a medal or some other meaningful Christmas commemoration to the students. I’m sure they’d be willing to say your family had sponsored the gift, if you want this to be recognized.
