School Sisters of Christ the King

The School Sisters of Christ the King (based in the diocese of Lincoln, NE) are moving into a parish in my town next month. I’ve read their website, and they seem orthodox. I also trust the pastor of the parish to bring in people who will be models of orthodoxy. What do you think of them? (I’m mostly looking for the thoughts of people who are in the diocese of Lincoln- or have been- and have worked with them personally in some way).
 
Their absolutely great, very orthodox, and any Catholic school or parish would be extremely blessed to have them.👍

Also, I don’t see any pictures of them without the habits, so I assume they wear them all the time.

🙂 How can you go wrong with that? This town needs witnesses of faith such as these.

They are listed on the websites of both the Institute on Religious Life and the Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious (CMSWR). This is a great sign as both require that member communities wear the habit. Also, the Institute lists communities based on their orthodoxy to the Catholic faith. You can’t go wrong there!

Are you sure that the Councilof Major Superiors of Women Religious require that member communities wear a religious habit?

The reason for my question is because I have worked with many sisters who belong to congregations who are members of said Council and do not wear a religious habit. Not that it particularly bothers me one way or the other.

One group with whom I worked, that doesn’t wear a religious habit, are the Sisters of St. Joseph of Philadelphia. They are an awesome group of sisters. Another very good group of Sisters that wears a habit, with an optional veil, are the Sister Servants of the Immaculate Heart from Immaculata PA. They are a very strong group of sisters. My children were very fortunate to have them as teachers.

Another group that is now putting aside the habit in certain provinces is the Daughters of Charity. I can’t imagine the Daughters, one of the largest groups in the Catholic Church, not being members of the Council of Women Religious.

Also, the requirement of a religious garb is up to the General Chapter of each religious congregation or order. Above the General Chapter, the only other body that has jurisdiction over a religious community is the Sacred Congregation for Religious if the community is Canonical or the local bishop, in the case of a Diocesan Religious community.

I’m having problems wrapping my brain around the Council having that kind of authority over the inner life of its member congregations and orders.

If I’m wrong, I’d like to know that too.
 
I apologize for the response below. I read the original post incorrectly. The poster mentioned the Council of Major Superiors of Women. I read it quickly and thought I had read the Council of Major Superiors which works closely with the Leadership Conference of Women Religious…. The rest is fine. My experiences with the Sisters of St. Joseph, the IHM sisters and the Daughters of Charity has always been very positive and strongly Catholic.

Do be careful with the habit. There are some groups that are schismatic who wear a full habit.

There are two uses of the word “orthodox”.

The Orthodox Church is the Eastern Christian Church. This is Orthodox with a capital “o”.

Then there is orthodox, with lower case “o” to mean correct or apporpriate, in keeping with, etc.

We say that a community is orthodox, it means that the community “plays by the rules.”

If a community is Orthodox, it means that the community belongs to the Eastern Christian Churches such as Greek Orthodox.
