I found this article very interesting. Being a pubic school teacher - I’m not sure where I stand on the issue of school vouchers - although I do tend to lean in favor of them.

MIAMI – What Florida’s teachers unions consider a menace, and what Florida’s Supreme Court considers an affront to the state’s Constitution, weighs 105 pounds, smiles shyly, speaks softly and wants to be a nurse. Octavia Lopez, 17, an 11th-grader at Archbishop Curley-Notre Dame High School in the heart of this polyglot city, was enabled to come to this school because of the smallest of three school-choice programs enacted under Gov. Jeb Bush.

I am a part time public school teacher and I am in favor of vouchers. I don’t stand behind many of the things our union does. How about when they funded the Planned Parenthood March in Washington DC a few years ago? Do you think that beneffited any school children? The teacher’s union and our public school education has a responsibilty to educate children and if they can’t at an acceptable level, then I think the children have a right to vouchers. I have paid for private schools for my own children even though my public school is good. I am fine with that, however if my public school was failing then I would be angry about that.

The Voucher dissent is interesting as they object to schools that teach organized religion, but many public schools teach hedonism (via their sex ed and other courses). I consider hedonism a religion and very contrary to my religion.

Public Schools may provide a uniform school experience but they certainly don’t provide a “high quality” one by any reasonable measure. Someone should use this stupid ruling to file charges against the state school system for not providing a “high quality” education.

Why a majority of blacks remain Dems I’ll never understand.
