I don’t usually post here. But I’m freaking out. I’m a sophomore in high school. Last year I made the biggest mistake of my life and signed up for higher level classes. I’m currently in danger of flunking English and history and almost certain to flunk biology and geometry.

I ask here for not only prayers that I can do something to scrape a C, especially in English, but for advice. If I do end up with D’s and F’s in these classes, what am I going to do? I’m honestly not sure what path that is going to lead me down.

Will i go to community college, will I end up transferring to a better school? Will I get married early and scrap the college, or will I end up stuck in a minimum wage job through my forties? I’m not sure of anything.

The world beyond high school is looming, and I am just so scared about exactly where I’m going to be two years from now.

Hi!

I’m actually a sophomore in high school too. (I’m also taking higher level classes)

I highly suggest you speak with your school counselor regarding your grades since the school year is almost over. Also, talk to your teachers if you need help or on how you can bring up your grade (maybe extra credit or tutoring :)). Don’t be afraid to talk to them! Your teachers are there to help you learn and improve. If you’re not too comfortable talking with your teachers, talk with a few of your classmates. Maybe you can have study sessions or teach each other!

As for your future, remember that you still have some for growth and improvement - study habits, grades, relationships, academics, athletics, etc.
What colleges are looking for is improvement throughout high school. Try your very best to bring your grades up starting now (it’s not too late!) and to keep them from dipping down again.

I’ll be praying for you!

P.S. Feel free to PM me!

Praying to the Holy Spirit to give you guidance & direction.

Sophomore in college, who, despite mostly getting A’s and B’s, has gotten a few C’s (and an F I don’t like to talk about. Do your homework, kids).

Don’t despair. D’s and F’s admittedly look worse, but colleges care about more than grades. For instance, if they see your grades improve after that point, it might not look as bad. Or since they’re higher level classes, they might be a bit more forgiving. (which looks better, straight A’s in easy classes, or B’s in harder classes?)

And if you need homework help or tutoring, feel free to PM me. I’m pretty good at math and can help with geometry, even if I have a personal vendetta against the class (the circles test was NOT pretty).

A Student’s Prayer

Loving Father, I stand before You in the midst of confusion and complexities of life. My future sometimes seems distant and unknown. Give me, O Lord, the vision to see the path You set before me. Grant me the courage to follow Your way, that through the gifts and talents You have given me, I may bring Your life and Your love to others. I ask this through Jesus, Your Son and my Brother.
Amen

Praying for you.

It has been too long, so I cannot remember how it happened, but I did a turnaround in my junior/senior years and surprised myself at getting into very nice difficult-to-get-into 4 year college. You can do it. Take the suggestion of seeking help at your school.

Praying hard for you. It will be work and you can do it!

One, don’t panic. There is always summer school. Yes, I said that. Also there is tutoring and you need to find out why your are failing. Do you have study habits that need worked on, is there a problem with comprehension, do you have trouble with basic math. I find math to be central for a lot of folks and the trouble lies in having used a calculator most of their academic career. I have tutored in all subjects, and for math the first thing I do is take that calculator away and work on basics.

I think you really could use some evaluations in math and English comprehension, then take classes according to those findings. Also work with someone who can show you better study techniques. If you plan to go to college this may save you a lot of grief. Wish I could help more.

I’m not gonna lie to you. I understand absolutely everything. But my homework habits have gone missing and I can’t seem to find them.
Summer school is only an option if I get an F. My school will not admit you into remedial summer classes if you only have a D; you will have to take it again the next year.
In geometry class, I missed a unit of homework, so I couldn’t take the test. Turns out, it was actually two tests for the one homework unit and now I’ve automatically missed out on 33% of my semester grade.
In English class I forgot to turn in a major project online. My grade dropped to a 70% because of that. Then I forgot to order a book online. I don’t want to see the grade I got on the reading test. I’m sure I’m at a D by now.
Getting a D in English is scary, because colleges see D’s as a fail, but I can’t take summer school because I didn’t technically fail, but I can’t retake the class next year because I need four years of English. Which means that if I get a D in English, my changes of getting into a university are literally over.

I took the higher level classes because I was doing very well in the test-and-lecture oriented lower-level classes. Once they asked me to do homework assignments, it was all over.
