Those of you who are native Chicagoans (or have been around for awhile) will know who “Chicago Ed” is. The king of late night radio who is a genuine classic and important person in both Chicago and broadcast history. With a keen eye for all things and a list of guests like none other, he showed care for his community like everyone should. Ed is singlehandly responsible for the Good Neighbor Food Drive, an annual Christmastime event supporting the Greater Chicagoland Food Depository. Even if you aren’t from this great city, you ought to know and respect who this man is. Ed has, as many know, had a long and ongoing battle with weight and illness. Most recently he experienced unexpected kidney failure. Thankfully, he has survived. But it’s a long road ahead and an expensive one at that. And, frankly, Ed is broke. Not through misspending or a badly lived life. Just generosity and medical costs which have brought him to bust. Thankfully, the communtity has rallied around him and his fellow broadcasters have taken up the torch and brought this to attention for us all. Yet there is still more to do. Please pray for Ed. Visit the website dedicated to helping him out. And donate if you can. Ed has been a “Good Neighbor” to us, and we should respond well in this his time of need; asking ourselves, “Who is this man’s neighbor?”

Alright, I confess: I went to bed with Ed.

Yeah. I know the priest (Opus Dei at that) who married him, actually. (Found out about that through an old Sun-Times feature article). Though the priest isn’t in Chicago anymore. Mancow and Chicago Ed, heh, talk about opposite extremes.

I saw on tv where a fan/friend of Mancows show was killed in hit and run…did they ever find out who did it? It was featured on Americas Most Wanted…

This morning it was reported that following extended illness, Chicago Ed’s microphone has at long last fallen silent. The voice of this city is, thus, less dynamic. But oh what a significant sound he offered us for so many years. Do not go silently into this dark night. Take Chicago Eddy Schwartz along with you and explore the world which is alive all around!
