Is the book Science and Religion in Dialogue, Two Volume Set [Hardcover]
Melville Y. Stewart worth reading ? I’m looking for books on big bang and string multiverse theories from religious perspective ?

Depends upon whether or not you need a cure for insomnia. $400 for a collection of respectful essays seems a tad pricey, especially when no two are likely to agree with one another.

If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary, a book that relates theological ideas to physics and vice-versa, wait a month or so for Digital Universe, Analog Soul.. For only 5% of the cost for the multiple-volume tome you’ll find a single, coherent set of contradiction-free ideas that integrate theology and physics.

Even better, if you don’t think its worth it, I’ll buy the book back from you.

I’ve heard Steven Barr’s book, Modern Physics Ancient Faith Highly recommended. You can find it on amazon inexpensively.

The book greylorn mentions seems (if I am mistaken, he can correct me) to be one he wrote himself, and you should know that his views are ones that Catholics would find theologically problematic.

No correction. Digital Universe, Analog Soul is my book, a 50-year project.

However, open-minded Catholics have found the ideas more interesting than problematic. My first mentor was a Norbertine Priest, and five CAF people have reviewed parts of the book, several offering constructive comments which I’ve incorporated.

This is not to say that any of these people have changed their beliefs and adopted my ideas instead. There would be no point to it, since my ideas are not intended to convert individuals who have already adopted a perfectly good belief system that works for them. They are engineered for honest agnostics, and intended to really annoy science-minded atheists by challenging some of their core assumptions about physics, and proposing a logical, physics-based theological concept which is entirely different from the traditional concept that they have rejected. Nonetheless, the ideas have proven helpful for a few Christians on the cusp of atheism,

I do not recommend them for devout Christians like yourself who already have a perfectly fine belief system, They are only for those who question.

The best book that I have read on the science-religion debate. A revelation (well, not a divine one, but inspired nonetheless). It discusses Big bang and multiverse theories, but also human nature. It contains a very strong version of the Argument from Reason. There are a few things that I disagree with, but overall a terrific book.

Barr’s writings on First Things have helped me greatly not to slip into atheism a few years ago. The book then was the icing on the cake.

I cannot comment on the Spitzer book.
 
I’ve found out about Barr book on this post, amazing, life changer… Spitzer book is good but it is for more advanced readers , doesn’t explain everything from scratch
 
I thought Ben Wiker’s The Catholic Church and Science (here’s the Amazon page) to be fairly informative, though awfully brief, review of how Faith & Science grew up together and are not at odds that some people would have you believe.
