This is a topic that otherwise doesn’t interest me, at least to the extent that it might have implications for Christianity. However, yesterday I found myself in a protracted conversation about science, evolution, and natural selection.

I know very little about this topic, and felt rendered entirely unable to defend my faith in the face of certain implications (e.g we’re descended from orangutans; the species evolves; etcetera).

Does anybody have any knowledge of this that might allow for a Catholic/ Christian to respond affirmatively, instead of shrugging sheepishly and suggesting “well, I still believe in God.”

I felt really rather silly, and then rather awful after.

Thank-you.

Unfortunately this topic is not allowed to be discussed under current CAF rules. Hopefully this temporary restriction will soon be lifted.

Discussion of Evolution is allowed in the Water Cooler/Back Fence forum, but please check the stickies there first.

For the scientific, but not theological, background to evolution see Understanding Evolution.
