I am also surprised by the ability of Jesuits to influence influential people, both in business and in politics.
For the prestige of universities there is a necessity of excellent management, personnel, funds.
But there are birds of very high flight influencing decisions and processes which many would call too risky for the spiritual person.
I agree that revolutions and wars sometimes change history, but sometimes spiritual personalities are not afraid to call for risky decisions.
I sometimes worry about other things. I wonder to what extent obedience to the state is obedience to God?
Jesuits obey the Empire , obey the state(or Imperial state)
Sometimes the obedience of the Jesuits of the ruling Empire seems to me an absolute and unquestioning obedience.
After all, empires cease to exist, borders and territories of states change sometimes several times in a century.
Is there any literature explaining the reasons or nature of the obedience of the Jesuits to the state? What thinkers of the past instilled such humility?
Sometimes it seems to me that obedience to the state as an institution by Jesuits can be compared to a form of idolatry.
