Anyone ever read this junk? I can’t believe bright people are being drawn to this dribble. Are they all going to hell? I believe so.

Many bright people have been drawn to cults. Intelligence is not a prerequisite but naivety and money is - yes, even intelligent people can be naive. Are cultists going to hell? I’m afraid only God can decide on their fates.

Your question: Scientology?

My answer: NO!

(( Have you seen these folks? ))

Gnostic sects ALWAYS draw such “interesting people”, don’t they? The elitists. The so-called “intellectuals”. The “famous”. The “hopeless”. The “do-it-yourselfers”. The blatantly insane. The power-mad. The “creatives”.

…shall we add further to the list?

All it takes to get drawn into a mind-controlling group is one thing in common with them and a spare moment to interact with them. Literally any of us can end up drawn in, even people who are normally aware of that kind of thing. Things in common can include frustration with the resistant nature of some illnesses, a wish for a better job, an idealistic hope for the world’s future, and a desire to be a better friend. Anything at all. Making fun of such groups lulls us into false security sometimes.

I don’t know if all Scientologists are going to hell (nor is it my role to determine that!).

I’m more concerned about the organization than the beliefs. The Church of $cientology is pure EVIL. From their legal intimidation of former members, extortion, lying about psychiatry, and domestic espionage to their culpability in the negligent homicide of Scientology parishioners:

THIS GROUP IS AN EVIL, DANGEROUS GROUP.

I heard a while back that a top leader in the Church of Scientology ordered the murdering of a reporter who threatended to expose the cult. Don’t know if that rumour was true or not. 🤷

I haven’t heard that before, and as a skeptic I’d refuse to believe it until I was shown positive evidence for it.

I’m typically tolerant of the existence of any “religious” institution, though I’ve recently come to draw the line at the Church of $cientology.

Start here as a reference and then you should be able to find plenty of further corroborating evidence by simple Google searches.

Start here, as well. 🙂

Operation Clambake has been at this for quite some time.

And yes, $¢¹£ŋŦӨ└ợץפ is pure evil.

In one trial, the judge said, “If the Mafia were a religion, it would be Scientology.”

Do not mess with them people. They can be very aggressive. I am aggressive, but I stopped doing my activities long ago.

DO NOT get involved with Anon. They can lead you to join /b/ or Goons, which are very bad people to be hanging with on the internet (/b/ have professional hackers, GOONS invade forums and have been known to destroy them) but you guys didn’t hear about that from me.

As it turns out, the quantity of proof that Scientology is true is the exact same quantity of proof that The Roman Catholic Church is true, or the Lutheran Church, or Baptists, or Mormons or Methodists…

Amazing… but hey, why hold back when you have the chance to denigrate and disparage other’s faith. Let em have it.

This is baseless. Scientology’s apologetical/ conversion technique goes as follows:
An attractive person approaches you inviting you to take a free personality test. the test is numbingly boring and long but the test administrator is in another room and the layout is such that it would seem rude to walk out so those who are more polite or curious or have the day off tend to finish it. This leaves them mentally numbed. They receive a realistic readout that declares just about everyone to be off the charts in bad qualities and on the verge of suicide. Then they invite you to try a cheap alternative treatment. It’s vitamins and meditation. You get to socialize with some believers, who tell you how it has helped them. After more rigged tests you get invited to pay more for more treatments. It’s only after being totally committed that you find out where this is all coming from. It’s all coming from a man who failed at many occupations and barely scratched by as a science-fiction writer, who wrote to a friend saying he thought a religion would be a good moneymaker. There is not only no evidence at all that any of it is true, we actually have the records that prove someone made it up for money.
This is the opposite of the case with the Catholic Church.

Yeah, those guys are pretty out of it, but they’re just misguided, not evil, therefore I don’t think they’ll go to Hell at all.

What exactly makes you say so?

Not that I disagree with you; I think it’s a weirdo cult. I haven’t studied on it much, but from what I have learnt, it does seem bizarre. I just like hearing specific critiques – it makes it easier to discuss.

My parish used to have a Scientology Centre next door. Thankfully, my parish recently bought that place out and is now using it as a Parish Hall. The Easter Vigil procession began around the same area where they used to hand out Scientology pamphlets. I thought that was great.

I found the Tom Cruise thing insane. I don’t pay attention to celebrity “news” (cause it isn’t real news) but that Tom Cruise on the Today Show thing was unavoidable. He was lecturing Matt Lauer on psychology but, like, what does Cruise know? He said he read about it, but reading about something doesn’t make you an expert. There’s a reason why schools exist, you know? The system of having experts and expertise is a system that largely works.

I read a little bit about that Lisa McPhereson, but I don’t understand if this is the fault of Scientology the organisation or if it’s the fault of some wrongdoers. I think that’s an important distinction to make: with the sex abuse crisis we suffered, it wasn’t the Catholic Church, but just some wrongdoers.

Some time ago, I did take that “Oxford Capacity Analysis” that they use to draw in members, but I took it online using a fake name and number. I don’t wanna be contacted by them, and I just took the test out of curiosity. From what I gather, they always interpret the results in a way that would make it seem as if Scientology is the only answer.

Do you think Scientology will last? I personally would guess that it would not. Corrupt systems tend to collapse (which just goes to show the people who think the Catholic heirarchy is so corrupt because that’s what they see in movies, yet the Church is as bright as ever). I mean, Scientology was founded by a science fiction writer, for crying out loud. The cult is just another novel of his. Funny how this cult gets so much attention. It self-reports that it has 8-15 million members. I don’t believe that for a second. I’d be astonished if it had more than 100,000 members in the US, and its rates in other countries can’t be very high.

Too much attention, but fortunately though it gets that much attention, it’s done without much seriousness. The Simpsons wanted to do an episode making fun of it but couldn’t because the woman who plays Bart is a Scientologist.

I always thought the Movementarians were half Scientologists, half Rajneeshis, maybe a little Urantia and who-knows-what thrown in. A little Rael, I guess, with the spaceship and all.

You’re missing the point entirely. What you say may be so but the really neat thing is that this presents Catholics another really cool opportunity to dump on other’s beliefs. Doesn’t matter that their Scientologists, just that they different so here’s the chance to attack, and marginalize.

…and still, the proof that the RCC is God’s approved Church is exactly the same that Scientology is… none.

The Church of Scientology is officially against all forms of psychiatry. This stance is what indirectly led to McPherson’s death.
I think that’s an important distinction to make: with the sex abuse crisis we suffered, it wasn’t the Catholic Church, but just some wrongdoers.
The Catholic Church hasn’t officially condoned an action that lead to the death of a person.
The Simpson’s wanted to do an episode making fun of it but couldn’t because the woman who plays Bart is a Scientologist.
As an avid ‘Simpson’s’ fan, I’m sad that such an episode never made it to fruition.

I can’t speak for any other person here except for myself. I speak out against the Church of Scientology because it’s a dangerous organization. This has nothing to do with folks being different and I desiring to marginalize.
…and still, the proof that the RCC is God’s approved Church is exactly the same that Scientology is… none.
Actually, Scientologists do not believe in God (at least not in the same sense as we do). Scientologists make no claim to being “God’s Church”.

There is a great deal of evidence pointing to the extremely high probability that the Catholic Church teaches the truth. That’s why I joined the Church. Most of CAF and the entire CA site is jam-packed with pointers to such evidence. Absolute proof, no, but epistemology is like quantum mechanics – you get started on it with one simple question and end up exploring it your whole life.
There is no evidence for, and much against, the truth-claims of Scientology. Furthermore, Scientology is far less likely to help anyone temporally and far more likely to drain finances, psychologically maltreat and even cause medically dangerous situations, relative to any major Christian church. That’s why so many people have been in litigation with Scientology.

I actually feel sorry for most in Scientology. Much is hidden, even the teachings. You have to reach a certain level, which each level comes a more advanced teaching. Most go in knowing nothing about their deeper teachings, it’s roots, or Hubbard’s dark past. I have said it before, he was much more than a sci fi writer.

Scientology reaches out to the seekers and the disenchanted. I took their test myself. However being the kind of person who believes nothing I am told until I check it out myself, I researched the organization and its founder.

Ron Hubbard wanted to be another Crowley, had met him at his temple in 1945, and had stated to others that he saw himself as Crowley’s successor.

In Jan 1946, for 12 nights in a row, he along with famous Rocket fuel scientist Jack Parsons, participated in an Enochian ritual to bring down the spirit of the Whore of Babylon, begging the spirit world for "An elemental mate” to participate in sexual rites and bring about the Moonchild.

During this time they experienced wind storms, power failure, and all kinds of bizarre things. “Call them and they will come”, is what I believe, and you better be darn sure of what you are calling. Hubbard claimed he was physically attacked by the spirit world. His visions were also recorded.

On the 12th night Hubbard and Parsons felt they had their sign, that ritual ended. Four days later Marjorie Cameron showed up, the one they were searching for. In March the Working began.

A Quote Form Hubbard’s, who acted The Scribe:

** “The Year of Babalon is 4063. She is the flame of life, power of darkness, she destroys with a glance, she may take thy soul. She feeds upon the death of men. Beautiful-Horrible” **

Crowley had a fit when they told him what they had done. Many Occultist believe the ritual ripped the veil open, or a portal, into the spirit world and that they did not, or could not, close it back completely. BTW, Parsons was a member of Crowley’s Ordo Templi Orientis, Also back in 1918 Crowley had performed The Amalantrah Working, a ritual to create a portal, or a rip in the fabric of time and space. Crowley had a lot more experience than they did.

On a really BIZARRE note, after the Babylon ritual the brilliant Scientist Jack Parsons wrote:

"Babalon is incarnate upon the earth today awaiting the proper hour of her manifestation. And in that day my work will be accomplished and I shall be blown away upon the breath of the father, even as it is written

His Prophecy was fulfilled. He WAS literally blown away 6 years later in his experimental lab by a rocket fuel explosion.

IMO Ron Hubbard was an opportunists, after the magickal rite he took off with Jack Parsons ten thousand dollars, which was a lot back then. Hubbard also took off with Betty, Parsons priestess, the teenage sister of Parson’s ex wife.

Crowley thought Hubbard was an opportunists as well, he cabled this message to the OTO:

"Suspect Ron playing confidence trick - Parsons weak fool - obvious victim prowling swindlers"

Would anyone want to join Scientology if they knew this?

Some of the posters are correct, theirs is not the same God. Not in the Christian sense.
