Nowhere did I praise Joel Osteen; “Smiling Joel” is sermon candy at best, so I don’t know why you’re bringing him up with me.
You have misquoted me again (which is what you usually do to anyone here); I didn’t demoralize him or denigrate Hahn; I praised him if I recall and said that his education was solid:
You’re full of it, OTCA - and you are mistaken. What I said is that he didn’t have a multitude of degrees, as you said.
No, I don’t have a Ph.D - I always felt called to parish work, not to teach full-time (I occasionally teach part-time at colleges or seminaries). But you are wrong in that I do have a Masters of Divinity degree (the minimum standard to be ordained in my tradition) and a Bachelor of Science degree. I had a double major in college (I started out pre-medicine). But I am the “dummy” of my family as I am the only one without a doctoral degree.
My brother has four degrees - but I don’t think he would say that he had a “multitude” of degrees either.
Now HERE’s what I would call a “multitude” of degrees:
Archbishop Desmond Tutu: University of South Africa, B.A., 1954; St. Peter’s Theological College, Johannesburg, L.Th, 1960; King’s College, London, B.D., 1965, M.Th, 1966; Doctorate of Divinity from General Theological Seminary, USA (May, 1978); Doctorate of Civil Law from Kent University, England (July 1978); Doctorate of Laws from Harvard, USA (June 1979); Doctorate of Theology from Ruhr University, Bochum (November 1981); Doctorate of Sacred Theology - Columbia University (Aug 1982); Doctorate of Humane Letters - St Paul’s College, Lawrenceville (1984 January); Doctorate of Law from Claremont Graduate School (1984 May); Doctorate of Sacred Theology from Dickinson College (1984 May); Doctorate of Divinity from Aberdeen University, Scotland (July, 1984); Doctor of Humane Letters, Howard University - U.S.A. (1984); Doctor of Humane Letters (May 2009); Doctor of Divinity, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (May 2009). Doctor Theologiae Honoris Causa, University of Vienna (June 2009).
Lot’s of them honorary, of course.
