P.S. If you’re offended by the fact that I said my religion is Christianity, then we can talk about that too. The long and short of it is that I consider Christianity to be ONE religion (not meaning any offense to Evangelicals and Fundamentalists who say that Catholicism and Protestantism are two different religions). See also.

Catholics ARE Christians. Being the first ones too. Just list yourself Catholic if you are one. Otherwise it is not my fault to take you as some other religion.

I do hope you’ll weigh in over at the Should the Non-Catholic Religions Forum be abolished? thread (sorry it’s not a very good thread title). It pretty much hinges on the question of whether we Catholics should regard Protestantism and Eastern Orthodoxy as “other religions”.

Three degrees is pretty typical for a professor of any discipline. I don’t know that you would call that a “multitude” though. I certainly don’t think I have a “multitude” of degrees, but I have a few. Maybe I’ll get an honorary degree one day… if I live long enough!

Dr. Hahn has certainly come a media darling of sorts. I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing, but there are certainly hazards when someone becomes “celebritized.” All humans have feet of clay. I think I heard Scott say that himself when I heard him lecture once.

I count 5 degrees. Does a triple major count as 3 degrees or just 1?

In my many years, I’ve only known one person to take a triple major. I’ve seen a few double majors. Lots of minors. But triple majors are rare. It’s impressive, even if it only counts as one degree. I still count it as 3. 🙂

Honorary degrees. Tee Hee. They’re a lot like the “Most Popular” superlatives in the old high school yearbooks, imo. Even hollywood celebrities get those. Like Rosie O’ who was thrown out of her major only to have the same college try to give her an honorary degree in the same major! lol

Just one. I asked when I got a double major what it would take for another degree, and they said “Another 45 quarter hours” (yes, I am dating myself here).

Nowadays, residency requirements make getting two bachelor degrees easier than a triple major. It is impressive nonetheless tho. I wish I had taken finance classes like Scott did - would have saved me a lot of grief when I had to learn it on my own and on the fly. Parish work requires knowledge of finance - and they don’t teach it in seminary.

I started out in graduate school to get an M.Div/J.D. degree, but after two years of classes wondered when I would ever use a law degree, so I dropped it. Law classes were hard work, but I found them very interesting.

It’s a rarity for someone to get beyond 3-4 degrees, tho. More than one Ph.D or professional degreee usually makes people ask, “Did you ever figure out what you’re going to do when you grow up?”

I just want to add to this discussion that last month I spent ten days on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land with Scott and Kimberly Hahn and three of their sons (ages 17, 14 and 9) as well as Steve and Janet Ray and Mike Aquilina.

The Hahns are very humble, sincere people and they are obviously uncomfortable with anyone who confers a “celebrity” status on them. Scott actively discourages this. Whenever I complimented them for their knowledge and clear speaking on scripture, or thanked them for their role in bringing me into the truth of the Catholic faith, they smiled and (it seems purposely) said very little. They have no interest in being celebrities.

Also, the three boys would make any family proud.

Just my two cents, hopefully to give my experience of the Hahns on a more personal level, and perhaps to elevate the discussion from the depths to which it has unfortunately sunk.

That’s my impression too. (And I’m not just saying that because Dr. Hahn teaches at my Alma Mater.)

I think most Catholics think that those who leave the CC, leave because more because they’re disgruntled over something that happened to them while being a Catholic than because of something another Christian church, religion, or agnosticism/atheism has to offer. Do you feel the same way about Hahn? Do you think that he ran from something more than he ran to something?

No disrespect intended but I think he’s an absolute IDIOT!!! His interpretations of scripture are so off base and I get tired of Catholics showcasing him as if all the sudden he’s this expert that can debunk the protestant movement.

Hahn is a multi-gizillionaire as you state as well OTCA. He’s made a fortune off his books. I think the appropriate term would be gazillionaire.
 
Have any of the nay-sayers ever met the Hahns? Much less travelled with them?

I certainly don’t care for the “celebritizing” (or whatever it’s called) that a lot of Catholics have done with him; but I disagree with your statement that he’s an idiot.

Wow, what happened? I can confirm this much about Proffessor Scott Hahn, He must be doing something right for God, because “Satan” knows who to attack. Please keep Dr. Scott Hahn in our prayers and those who are on their way back Home to Rome.

I believe that “Satan” is very smart indeed, but I don’t know how we got around to talking about him.
