Faithful 2 Rome:
I recently purchased the Navarre COMPACT New Testament (wish I bought the separate issues…maybe later) for $35. It contains less commentary than the separate volumes, and I gotta give it up to Scott Hahn…I also own the Ignatius Study Bibles of the 4 Gospels and Acts… and Hahn gives MUCH more insight than the Navarre COMPACT does.
Compare the two… you will see that much of Hahn’s commentary is an expansion on the Navarre.
Does anyone own the Navarre separate volumes AND the ISB w/Hahn Commentary? If so…how would you rate the two against one another?
The 12 volume New Testament does contain not only more commentary, but also excellant reference material in the front of the soft cover editions.
The 12 were re-issued into two hard cover volumes… Gospels and Acts, and the New Testament… each with less commentary than the original. And so far there are 5 hard cover volumes of the OT - all very good.
If you want a
superb work… purchase the
Gospel of Matthew Apologetic Study Bible, by Robert Sungenis. It is the first of 12-13 volumes called the CASB as a group – Catholic Apologetic Study Bible. Purchase direct…

I realize there are other apologists who “compete” with Sungenis for reliability, but some will sometimes insert too much opinion. If you are familiar with
Not By Faith Alone, Not By Scripture Alone, Not By Bread Alone etc by Sungenis, you will agree with all (including Dr. Hahn and other notable apologists and orthodox bishops) who laud his tremendous efforts at factual reporting. Early Fathers, Councils, Church History, etc are forefront in his works. Owning and having read them all, as well as many other current apologists’ works, well… I have formed my opinion and can only say…enjoy!

By the way, I personally feel that if Not By Scripture and Not By Faith had been written 500 years ago there would not have been a Reformation. But look how much we have learned because of it… so God does know what He is doing.:clapping:
