CopticChristian;10402253:
As far as I know, the Catholic Church does not offer licenses over the internet. To accept a title such as “minister” in a “church” outside the Catholic Church is considered abandonment of the faith and carries a penalty of excommunication.
Don,

That is serious stuff. Show me where I can view this canon law and allow me to know where it is and I shall speak to my priest. Don’t want to be excommunicated. While you are at it would you go over to this thread and give some pastoral advice…

Post 13…
Anyway, I also talked to my priest, with whom I enjoyed a special sort of relationship as a teenager; he also has been fighting this good battle, and he even experimented with me years ago but I think that was just me being a teenager.
Here is my question. Should this young man report his priest to the Bishop? I wait for your response on that thread.

Get me the canon law so I can see it.

Is this what they taught you in seminary? that being circumcised is being alter christus?
If having male organs is necessary to be alter christus because Jesus had them, then his circumcision, which formed an important part of his religious identity should also be a necessary attribute of being physically alter christus.
My seminary did not support the alter christus argument in any fashion. There was one Christ and only one. Accept no substitutes.

RevDon,

I posted that we are waiting for your pastoral advice concerning this priest involved with a young man.

Which seminary did you attend?

"I am a mid-thirties guy living in Chicago. This city is very liberal, and I have had some sexual experiences here that I regret (and also in both Philadelphia and New York, where I used to live.) Honestly, I have become very afraid of this destructive lifestyle I’m living! I have been engaging in sex with men for the past 15 years. I am not proud of this, but I find it addictive, and at times quite difficult to avoid. There are many attractive people in this city (moreso than anywhere else I have lived) and I’m often told that I am very attractive myself. I’m athletic, in shape, have a slim and athletic build, and in the summer I frequent the lakeshore path riding my bike with my shirt off. Once, at the end of the summer, shortly after moving here, I was riding down the path and made eye contact with a guy and ended up going to his place with him.

I am DONE with this lifestyle and I know that it is within me to love women. Actually, I do love women, but I can’t figure out what’s wrong with me.

My prayers do not seem to be answered. I feel I have a very special relationship with Jesus, who has helped me to refuse sexual relations with men many times. I feel that my attitude is right. I just can’t get past the addiction. Can anyone offer me some advice? Has anyone suffered a similar battle? Your private messages are welcome as well. "

In this instance I note that the young man labels his situation as being affected by an addiction he wishes to escape. He also says he “loves women.” He says he is done with his “destructive lifestyle.” He adds that he has submitted his problem to prayer, so has a religious foundation that obviously has some importance for him and can be a resource not only in overcoming his addiction directly, but also in providing him with a support community.
His success in overcoming that addiction is hampered by 15 years of reinforcing behavior, yet the young man does not identify himself as intrinsically gay.
It may be that the terminology he used to describe his state is inaccurate. From what is in front of me, I can’t jump to that conclusion.
I would say that he should be able to make the decision not to act on his attraction (and attractiveness) to men. He should likewise be able to cultivate his attraction to women. These are behaviors he self-identifies as desired. The means would be similar to that used by other addicts.

Don,

Look what he says in post 13…

should this priest be reported?

Don,

should this priest be reported?
If the young man means what I think he means by “experimented,” then Yes, that priest should be reported. It’s the right thing to do, and it is demanded by church policies and civil law.
