Anyone else think it would make a great movie? I have been playing around with characters, implementation, etc.

BTW, I agree with what the pp said about Screwtape Proposes a Toast and the part about the educational system. Couldn’t be more true.
 
Screwtape might talk of all the diseases that could be cured, if only a few “embryo’s” are allowed to be used for research, or how there are too many people in the world and the population must be limited, or how its better for children if two parents who can’t get along divorce rather than fight all the time, or tell his subject that oral — isn’t really —, or that kids are going to do it anyway so it is morally imperative to give them condoms.

He might also tell his subject that he earned his money and has a right to keep it and use it as he wishes with no social responsibility, or that it is morally necessary to torture suspects to protect the rest of society.

I’m sure old Screwtape can think of lots more, but those seem to be some of the big things he’s working on these days.

It would make a great movie as it has a great story line with mystery, suspense, and psycholgical survival. Everyone can place themselves in this movie and how one would respond. Any of C.S. Lewis Books would make a good movie but that’s a tough sell with the liberal and secular hollywood not wanting to bring any kind of Christianity undertones in their films.

If it is not about homosexuality, single divorced parents, the paranormal, or alleged historical overtones that show a non-God society through animals they will not sponsor it.

Just look at the hard time they gave the Passion of the Christ.

What ticked them off was how much money it made and they could not cash in.

There is apparently a screen adaptation of The Screwtape Letters in the works. I’ll be interested to see it whenever it comes out.

I bought that on cd…and wow…it’s really awesome–spellbinding…and makes you really think.

You know what’s ironic about your question? He said in an interview years ago, that he didn’t ‘enjoy’ writing that book…haha…he said if he had to do it over again, he wouldn’t. I was surprised by that–he said it took a lot out of him.

But…hypothetically speaking…if he wrote a second series…I think he would have one showing more of the ‘good’ side of things, instead of speaking in the ‘person’ of the devil. I found it to be a little depressing, after a while–but, again, I listened to the book on cd.

The book scared the **** out of me, the realism was overwhelming and the situations, some of which I can relate to, forced me out of my “comfort zone” and made me take a long hard look at myself.

Like others have said,I believe a sequel would be based on politics, Church scandal and extreme political correctness, all through the lens of the media.

Word of caution though, this book can mess with your head in a very psychologically stressful way.

Tell you what scared me more, was *The Great Divorce *have you read that?

Yes, it was hopeful as well. What was scary to me, was people holding onto those human traits that are not too sinful, but sinful enough to keep you from heaven…things like pride, especially.

Screwtape would congratulate Wormwood for the victory in the priestly scandals which of of course make people turn from the church

Have any of you read “Moloch’s Blog”? It’s in the same vein, on the subject of abortion. (Moloch is the demon of the Old Testament to whom the pagans sacrificed their babies.)

I still commend Randy Alcorn’s attempt at a sequel, which does indeed adress a lot of the contemporary issues folks are bringing up.
