Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins…
- Acts 2:39
Rise and be baptized, and wash away your sins…
- Acts 22:16
Baptism . . . now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a clear conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ…
- 1 Pet. 3:21
Other proof that early Christians clearly believed that baptism forgives sins is the fact that many of them delayed baptism until their death bed so that they would die completely free of sin. The Christian faith that baptism forgives sins was never really in doubt in early Christianity the only question was how many times someone could be baptized for the forgiveness of sins which is why the Nicene Creed says only once.
