I received as a Christmas gift The Illustrated Catholic Bible on CD-ROM (Harmony Media. It is absolutely great.

But in the Gospel commentaries, the names Pseudo-Athansius and Pseudo-Chrysostom appear as commentators. Can anyone tell me who they are, any bio info would be appreciated.

When you see Pseudo- by a name, it usually means, “We’ve got this book/treatise, and we don’t know who really wrote it. It was either attributed in the copy we have to this famous guy, or it was written in imitation of his style.”

So say some guy wrote a “New Screwtape Letters” dealing with the common faith problems of the 22nd century. You’d know from the vocabulary and publishing date that it wasn’t C.S. Lewis, but you might not know who it really was. Still, the guy might make some really good points. So you’d quote him as “Pseudo-C.S. Lewis”.
