Hello,
I recently acquired a copy of Fr. Peter Stravinskas’ Lauds and Vespers**, which includes Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer in Latin side-by-side with an unofficial English translation.
In Fr. Stravinskas’ book, following the psalms and canticle there is a “Short Reading” (Latin: lectio brevis), which seems to be an abbreviated version of the Reading found in the English Liturgy of the Hours. For example, according to Fr. Stravinskas’ book, the reading for Morning Prayer of Wednesday of week 1 of Advent is Isaiah 7:14b-15. According to the Liturgy of the Hours, the reading is Isaiah 7:10-15.
Can anyone explain this difference? I had the impression that Fr. Stravinskas’ Latin text followed the official Liturgica Horarium. I know the Liturgy of the Hours includes psalm prayers that are not included in the Liturgica Horarium. Does Fr. Stravinskas’ book simply not include the whole text printed in the Liturgica Horarium, or does the Liturgy of the Hours include a longer reading than the Liturgica Horarium?
Thanks. A happy Advent to all.
