Scripture readings for Aug. 6, what do they tell us?

Moses asks God why he was given Israel to shepard and Christ feeds the 5000. I can’t relate these two for the life of me!

I didn’t hear those readings. :confused: Besides today there were 3.

I think he read from the ferial lectionery by mistake.
 
Woops! I pulled my readings from my Missal. I forgot that today was the Most Holy Transfiguration of Christ. Thanks for the link! I’ll read and meditate…

I assume you are referring to the readings for Monday of the Eighteenth Week in Ordinary Time, Year 1: Numbers 11:4b-15 and Matthew 14:13-21.

The connection might be the mention in each reading of food that God miraculously provided. The first reading mentions manna and the gospel reading mentions the loaves and fishes that Jesus multiplied to feed 5000 men.
 
Yeah, that was the one. Luckily I found the right one’s (Duteronomy, 2Peter, and Luke…I think it was Luke…).

I really liked the Duteronomy reading and the Psalm was increadibly powerful when read in the RSV-CE Ignatius Bible.

A question on Lectio though, what am I supposed to be “listening” for . I read that we are to hear the still small voice of God…I don’t know what God sounds like! A little help would be great.

A general idea of what you should be listening for would be:
  1. What do I learn about God from this passage?
  2. What do I learn about myself - that is, what God desires of me?
First, ask God to guide your thinking and then use your mind to try and answer those questions. If there are things you don’t understand in the passages, ask Our Lord what they mean. Don’t expect an immediate answer! Sometimes I think God tests our intentions - is it just sort of idle curiosity or is it something we really desire to know. There are a few things I had to wait years to get answers to; sometimes I think it was because there were “prerequisites” it was important for me to grasp first.

I’ve never had an audible locution, so I don’t know what God sounds like either. 🙂

Most times God will speak by guiding your thoughts. You may be meditating on a passage, wondering about some aspect, and an answer or insight will come. (If it’s God, those thoughts will always be in conformity with Church teaches. If they’re contrary to Church teaching, reject the thoughts - they’re either a result of faulty human reasoning or else inspired by the devil)

God will also speak to you through others. For example, it might be through reading commentary on the particular passage or a sermon.

I have nothing of substance to add, but I did want to commend scapularkid for really taking the time to appreciate the fullness of the word of God in the liturgy 👍
